Hall here, recent headquarters
during the mop-up following the
Aug. 7 explosion, was condemned
Monday by city officials.
City Manager John Warburton
ordered the police and fire depart
ments to vacate the building.
Their operations will be carried
cut from the city garage and an
administration building separate
from the City Hall.
. Inspectors, still searching for
critical damage in the city's
dr.wntown area, found the rear
wall of the 66-year-old brick build
ing cracked and warped.
City Engineer Ken Meng said
the wall has moved a quarter of
an inch since an initial inspection
several days ago. He said the
second floor is threatened to col
lapse.
The building has been used as
police and fire headquarters for
many years. The second floor,
since administration was moved
to a different building, has been
Used for council meetings.
Firemen were moved to tempo
rary quarters at the city garage
about flour blocks away. On-duty
firemen will stay in a house
trailer.
The Police Department moved
Into the administration offices.
The old building was doomed,
even before the blast.
Councilman had made plans for
remodeling a two-story building
next to the administration build
ing for a new fire and police
nation, municipal court, jail and
council room. The U.S. National
Bank of Portland has agreed to
buy the old City Hall, and plans
to build a new bank building
there.

Booth Planned
Visitors to the Oregon State
Fair this year will have an op
portunity to test their knowledge
of traffic laws and techniques. A
booth planned by the Oregon Traf
fic Safety Commission will feature
a question board for rating traf
fic t.Q.
In addition, the commission will
conduct a public opinion poll in its
booth, asking fair-goers to express
their, views on whether the state
should keep its basic rule speed
law or add maximum limits
the present law.

To Long Beach Mrs. Wilfred
Noble, Lanpell Valley, is spending
a few days at Long Beach, Cali
fornia, with her three daughters.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Watson of
Bonanza.

home in Langell Valley last week

visited her niece Mrs. Louis Stork
and family of Klamath
Falls on their way to Canada.
From Bull Falls Mr. and
Mrs. Dick Pepple and Deann spent
several days recently in Bonanza
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Owen Pepple. They took Paul and
Michele home with them. The girls
spent a month with their grandparents.
Virgil Boomer of Lorella store
is home from Portland where he
has been receiving medical care.
He is on crutches.

ley, are F. W. Brown and his
grandson Larry Cohea, Bakers
field. Brown sold his ranch in
Langell Valley to Mr. and Mrs.
Jdck Metier before moving to Sac

Broken Arm Meredith Randall
5-year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Randall, fell from a
picnic table recently and broke
her arm. The family lives in Lan
gell Valley.
Eye Surgery Friends of Mri.
Mary Leidy, former Langell Val
ley resident, have received word
that she has returned to her home
in Los Angeles after five weeks in
a hospital recovering from eye
surgery.

Community Hospital. She was hurt
in the Roseburg blast.

MERRILL SHEEP CLUB
The Merrill Sheep Club had its
meeting August 12. We talked
about decorations for our barn
at the fair and what we were
going to wear. We decided to wear
the same as last year.
Sara West gave a talk about our
record books and helped fill them
out. She will check them at our
next meeting.

The August 10 meeting of the
Poe Valley Shepherds was held at
the home of Gena and Krisly Spiel-
man. The members practiced
showmanship with the help of the
leaders. '
Gena Spielman read the basis
of scoring showmanship and herds-
manship. The club will decorate
for the fair August 21 at 6 p.m
The meeting was adjourned and
Mrs. Spielman served refresh
ments.
