Shark Attacks
Diver At Beach
LA JOLLA. Calif. 'API A skin-
diver has 15 tooth marks on his
leg to vouch for tins lacl:
Sharks are on the prowl off the
California coast.
Veme Fleet said he was skin
diving in the La Jolla cove Tues
day night when his spear line got
tangled. He surfaced to straighten
it out. Then the 6-foot hammer
head shark attacked.
"It didn't hurt." he says. "It
felt more like a prickling sensa
tion. I rolled in the water and
brushed it away with one hand."
The shark swam around him in
lazy circles. When he headed for
shore, it swam away.
Fleet, 25, has puncture marks
on his upper left thigh. The lower
edge of his swimming trunks
were shredded.
The attack occurred 300 yards
from where Robert Pamperin, 33,
was killed by a great white shark
last month.
