Suds Nudge Bevos
In Series Opener
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
The Seattle Rainiers, who have
picked up a zany habit of winning
the opening games of their Pa
cific Coast League series, then
losing enough of the remaining
games to keep buried in the
cellar, were at it again Tuesday
night.
The Suds made it 11 series op
eners in a row they have tucked
away in the victory column by
coming from behind in the eighth
inning to nudge the Portland
Beavers 2-1.
The second-place Vancouver
Motilities belted the stumbling
Spokane Indians twice, 1-0 and 7-3,
and gained a half game on the
Sacramento Solons, to turned
back San Diego's Padres 8-4. Sac
ramento has a two-game cushion.
In the league's other tussle, the
Phoenix Giants made the most of
only six hits and a ninth inning-
rally in edging the Salt Lake City
Bees 5-4.
Young Jay Hook, a portsider,
held the Beavers to four hits in
winning his ninth victory in 16
decisions. Three singles, a walk,
a forccout and an error gave the
Rainiers both of their runs in the
eighth frame. Dave Melton's dou
ble chased in Milt Grass with
Portland's run in the third:
Wes Stock gave the Indians only
KF Nine.
Drivers
Triumph

hands of two teams as Kingsley
Field notched a 6-2 victory over
DARCO on Kingsley Field, while
Teamsters Local 911 routed the
House of Discount 11-1 on Capehart
Field i Tuesday night.
- The Kingsley nine, behind a
' three hit pitching' performance by

; executed a neat double play and
collected six hits, all singles, in
; disposing of the DARCOs.
i The loss was charged to DARCO's
; Kod Pelzell who was relieved by
Phil Vcrdui in the third.
; An injury to Kingsley starting
catcher Jim Hill caused him to
be taken from the game. He was
! replaced by Tom Sutton.
Wayne Gallup tossed a five-
i hitter to rate the win for the Team
J ster squad. In addition to his five
. inning mound work- Gallup blasted
' one of six Teamster two - base
knocks. The others were collected
by Mike Kirkpatrick who rapped
! two, Paul Perkins, David Baker
' and Bob Middleton.
The defeat was charged to the
Discounters' Andy Malisak who
had to have help in the fifth frame
-from Van Perry,
jl The only Discount score of the
-eame came off Rick Van
