The 31-year-old Mrs. bnook was

ning event Monday night. All 51
contestants had to submit written
menus for a typical day's family
fare and a board of economists
judged them.

A drive for funds to support the
City of Hope, a nonsectarian medi
cal center in Pasadena, will get
underway in Klamath Falls Tues
day. June 23. Drive officers are
looking for hundreds of workers.
Volunteers are , asked to call
Dora Skeen at TU 2-4301 or Bar
bara Mills at TU 2-2872. They are
needed to canvass small areas in
to which the city has been divided
for the drive.
The City of Hope js 48 years
old. It handles victims of diseases
such as cancer, including leukemia,
and chest and heart disorders. It
also sponsors research and post-
graduate medical education aimed
at control and eradication of such
diseases. Patients are not billed.
Last year the center treated .28,-
ooo patients. Cost of running the
center is $18,000 per day. Funds
are gathered yearly across the na
tion. Federal and state funds and
allotments from the American
Cancer and Heart Societies have
helped construct and purchase fa
cilities. Operating cost is financed
through philanthropic donations.
UNCLAIMED PROPERTY BILL

nal passage of a bill by Assem
blyman Allen Miller (D-San Fer
nando) to allow the state to ac
quire unclaimed property held in
banks and trust funds. Miller said
he felt the bill would net millions
of dollars to the state.

secret judicial inquiries by states.

criminal contempt judgment
against two Brooklyn private de
tectives. The two balked at an

ing" and other questionable prac
tices among lawyers of the Kings
County bar in New York.

Black accused the majority of re
treating from their highest duty,
"that of maintaining unimpaired
rights and liberties guaranteed by
