Seats Officers
YREKA Installation of new of
ficers for 1959-0 was the highlight
of the recent meeting of Beta Sig
ma Alpha sorority held at the
home of Mrs. Leo Spry, who was
seated as the new president.
Mrs. Louis Choate, a past presi
dent of the chapter, as installing
officer, also seated Mrs. Richard
DeMers.vice president; Mrs. Wal
ter Biegler, treasurer: Mrs. Oscar
Piemme, recording secretary; and
Mrs. Richard Silva. corresponding
secretary. Mrs. Don Tyler, newly
elected education chairman, was
unable to be present for the ceremony.
Mrs. Spry presented the retiring
president, Mrs. Jack Nosier, the
gavel for her pin.
Dinner was enjoyed by the group
at the Shamrock Cafe, following
the meeting and installation cere
mony. Present, in addition to those
mentioned were Mrs. Gordon
Pray, Mrs. Sam Canttani. Mrs.
Herb Egelman, Mrs. Robert Gor
don, Mrs. Charles Guenther and
Mrs. Ken Truelove.

mond Symphony Orchestra. She

er." She follbws the score closely
on ner typewriter so that at Just

YREKA Highlight of the recent
ly held meeting of Stella Chap
ter, Order of Eastern Star, in the
Masonic Temple at Yreka, was
the initiation of Mrs. Esther Ma
rie Smith as a new member. The
meeting was conducted by Worthy
Matron Dorothy Johnson and
Worthy Patron Thomas Watt.
An impressive memorial service
was held for members who hadj
died during tne past year, as
Mrs. Dorothy Van Orsdel read a
prayer, white flowers were rev
erently placed upon the altar.
Visiting deputy grand matron.
Mrs. Lucil Gaynor. was escort
ed to the east, as was Mrs. Alice
Landon, grand representative to
Canada from California,, both of
whom were welcomed.
Mrs. Ethel Cavin. Mrs. Jeanne
Rea. Mrs. Esther Gray. Mrs. Ef
fie Butler. Mrs. Ora McGregor.
Ernest Millbourn and Mrs. Alice
Landon. were honored as having
birthdays during the month of May.
The temple was attractively dec
orated with arrangements of white
snowballs for the meeting.
Refreshments were served at the
close of the meeting at tables dec
orated with . spring blossoms. The
refreshment committee headed by
chairman, Mrs. Evelyn Lichens,
with committee . members. Mrs.
Rosemary Franson. Mrs. Harriet
Houston, Mrs. Josephine Kinney.
Mrs. Kay Jensen and Mrs. Mary
Simmons.
