Blue-Eyed Blonde To Reign Over Fair

. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Branch of Paisley, was chosen
' queen by the judges here Satur
day on the basis of horsemanship
' and public appearance. She was
iponsored by the 20-40 Farmers.

ley, who will be the other members

. The choice between the three
girls was a difficult one for the
. judges. All were qualified in every
. instance to hold the queen position.

munities. Glenda was born in -Lakeview
but has lived in Paisley for the
past 14 years where her parents
are ranchers. She has an older sis
ter, Sandra, who is in the nursing
profession in Salem. Horseman

separating cattle with her father

She is a slender. S feet, 6 inches,
and is well poised for her 16 years
Joy Kerr, another blonde, with
hazel eyes, is also 16, and has
lived on a ranch all her life.
Her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Kerr, have lived in the New Idaho
District, west of Lakeview, for the
past 11 years, and their five chil
dren, two boys and three girls, all
take part in the ranching and stock
raising activities. 4-H Club and
FFA activities are second nature
for the Kerr family, and Joy has
been active in many other high
school programs for the past three
years. She participated in the 4-H
horsemanship contests last year.
She will be a senior at Lakeview
High School next year. She was
sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.
The second princess. Pat Oak
ley, has blue-green eyes to con
trast with her dark brown hair.
Definitely an accomplished horse
woman, Pat has helped during
branding time at such large cat
tie outfits as the Hudspeth ranch
at Paulina, and the Jess Roberts
ranch on the Westside. Pat,' 17, is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Oakley of the Westside, and she
has two sisters and a brother.
She has belonged to a 4-H horse
manship club for the past two
years; is a member of the gradu
ating class of the Lakeview High
School this year and plans to go
into the nursing profession. Her
sponsor was the Thomas Creek
Grange.
The girls were judged Saturday
afternoon at the fairgrounds for
their proficiency in horsemanship
and were picked from eight con
testants. Later that evening all
the girls gathered with the judges
at a dinner during which their ap
pearance and general ability to
meet people was 50 per cent of
the determination of final choice.
Announcement of the winner was
made that evening during the
queen's dance at the memorial
hall.
The judges included Mr. and
Mrs. Cameron Cliff of the Bell A
Ranch near Burns. Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie Reed of Klamath Falls.
and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Van Horn
of Alturas. Also at the dinner were
Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Abramson
and Mr, and Mrs. Oris Rudd.
Abramson is the roundup presi
dent this year, and Rudd is chair
man of the Queen's Committee.
