FUTURE HQMEMAKERS of America held their annual installation of officers and
Mothers Tea Saturday, May 2, at the Norman Jones home, 700 Lome Linda Drive. Each
mother was presented with wild plum candy, the candy recipe and a sachet bag.
New officers were installed and given a corsage by outgoing president, Betty Tag
gert. Following installation tea was served to 35 guests. During the afternoon Mrs. Clara
Fink, club adviser, was assisted by Mrs. Tracy Taggert and Mrs. Norman Jones.

At the business meeting new offi
cers were elected. They are: Mrs.
Earl E. Jones, president; Mrs.
Vernon Neet, vice president; Mrs.
June Wallvvork, secretary-treasurer;
Mrs. X. S. Hepburn, sociai
chairman. A set of bylaws were
set up by Mrs. Lee Holliday. Mrs.
Vernon Neet and Mrs. Stevie Ma
guire. They were read by Mrs.
Vernon Neet.
After the business session, cards
were played. Priies were won by
Mrs, Sue Leody, high in bridge,
and Mrs. Irene Markham, low.
High score in pinochle was held
by Mrs. Hoy Lien and low by Mrs.
Dorothy Post.
MARRIAGE ANNOUNCED
NEW PINE CREEK - Sharon
Tuxhorn, daughter of Mr. and
Rrrs. Henry Tuxhorn of New Pine
Creek, was married in Reno on
May 8 to Allen Sampels, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sampels of
Lakevicw. The young Mr. and Mrs,
Sampels are living in Lakeview
where he is employed.

ALTURAS Mrs, Chris Starr was
hostess to the Alturas Business and
Professional Women s Club at her
home Monday evening, May 11.
Mrs. Clara Eddie, newly elected
president of the northern district
of BPW cluhs will fly to Coronado
for the annual state convention
which will be held on May 23 and
H. Mrs. Eddie is superintendent of
Modoc County schools.

At the coffee service were Mrs.
George Rankin and Mrs. Lester
Moore. The punch bowl was at
tended hy Mrs. Roy Beasly, Mrs.
Alfred Carleton and Mrs. Robert
Retrik. .
A 4-H style review was present
ed bv groups led by Mrs. Orville
Eifer't and Mrs. Dan Barry. Nar
rators were Gloria Cahan and
Joyce Noonan.
A gift was presented to June
Orem. past president, by the past
and present officers of PPA.
A musical program was given
bv Nancy Luers and Sherry Keck.
The Charleston was danced hy Bet
ty Chapman and Susan Miller. A
dance program was given by the
seventh grade students.
OHie Belle Baird, president, was
the mistress of ceremonies.
MRS. GEORGE SIMON, seated, was guest of honor at
a baby shower given by the Women's Society of Christian
Service on April 22. She was assisted in opening her gifts
by Mrs. James Dixon with whom she is pictured.

BABY SHOWER
Mrs. George Simon was horored
with a baby shower the afternoon
of April 22, by the Women's Soci
ety ot Christian service ot my at
the home of Mrs. Jack Larsen.
There were 20 ladies to take part
in the games that were played
that afternoon. Mrs. Simon was
first in the word scramble game
with Mrs. Elsie Morris second.
Mrs. Jerold Dillavou and Mrs. Ed
Patzke were winners of the second
game. The prizes were cute cera
mic iigurines.
The refreshment table was cen
tered with pink baby rose buds
and lilly of the valley flowers with
silver tapers.
Mrs. Ray Meyers baked the at
tractive cake that was shaped and
trimmed like a baby bootie.
Mrs. James Dixon, president of
the WSCS assisted Mrs. Simon
with the opening of the many use
ful and beautiful gifts. Members of
the society assisted with the refreshments.

of Hornhrook, "April Showers'

ess, who used a colorfully decorat
ed umbrella to cover a "shower"
of birthday gifts, and miniature!
umbrellas were used for place
cards. Diversion for the evening
consisted ot tne guests plavine oi-
nochle, with Mrs. Ernest Adams
and A. A'. Protsman emerging as
high score holders for the evening's
play. Present in addition to those
named, besides the hosts and hon
oree, were Lester Nye, Mrs. A. A,
Protsman and Ernest Adams.

Legion Auxiliary
Meets In Malin
MALIN Dates for the annual
poppy sales were set at a re
cent American Legion Auxiliary
meeting. Poppies will be sold down
town in Malin by auxiliary mem
bers on Friday and Saturday, May
22 and 23.
, Mrs. George Bauer, in the ab
sence of the president, presided at
the business meeting. The follow
ing officers were elected for the
coming year: Mrs. Ed McCulley.
president: Mrs. Jim Conroy, first
vice president; Mrs. Ernest Gray,
second vice president: and Mrs.
Paul McCulley, secretary-treasurer.
They will be installed on Wed
nesday evening, June 3.
A report on the country ot El
Salvador was given by Mrs. A. L.
Schmidt, "Pan-American chairman.
Mrs. Ed Petrasek and Mrs. John
McCullev told about the meeting
held in Merrill recently with the
department president and vice
president. Seven members from
the Malin unit attended.
Questionnaires to be completed
by the officers and chairmen on
the year's activities were given
out.

cent hosts for a hayride and ein
er roast. Guests were Mr. and Mrs.

The group rode the hay wagon
alone Hungry Hollow and had the
campfire and weincr roast at the
picnic grounds. A three-foot rattle
snake was discovered near the pic
nic grounds, which caused quite a
bit of excitement before It was
killed. The evening ended with
