FOR THEM ... A BRIGHTER WORLD!
Dear fo the hearts of Shriners are our
Hospitals, wherein we have ministered to
more than 250,000 crippled children, without
money or price, and without regard to race,
color or creed. All of these have been either
cured or materially benefited, and thousands
of others, "in-and-out" patients, have been
blessed by clinical treatments, braces and
other artificial aids furnished them.
These children, crippled, deformed
and horribly burned, literal shipwrecks on th
sea of time, come crawling into our hospit
als, and after months of tender, merciful
treatment they go hopping and
skipping out, able to play with
their fellows and to take use
ful positions in life. Think of it
. . . 250,000 helpless dependent
ones transformed into a mighty
army of self-supporting citizens.
I wish everyone could re
alize the magnitude of the busi
ness of operating these hospit
als and the multitude of services
necessary for the children under
our care. In our temples of
mercy they receive the highest
type of hospitalization, medical
care, physical therapy and oth
er necessary treatment. In addi
tion, thereto, while mending
their little bodies, trained nurs
es, schooled in psychology, mini
ster to their little minds. School
work, entertainment and occu
pational therapy are provided,
because of such loving care in
these havens of hope, clouds of
despair give way to rainbows
of hope, heavy hearts are light
ened and gloomy faces bright
ened by happy smiles. Carrying
on this work, which has grown
until it has become the world's
greatest philanthropy, has cost
Shriners a stacigering sum of
money; but, oh! the joy they
have derived from helping the
most pathetic of all human be
ings ... a handicapped crippled
child, with no chance of having
its broken body mended except
in our temples of mercy.
In the Shrine, "our jewels
are the cast-off braces and
abandoned crutches of boys and
girls who need them no more."
We glory in temples of baby
smiles wherein every needy,
crippled child is welcome. Our
philosophy unites fellowship,
friendship and a happy philoso
phy of life with the joy of doing
good. Truly, we are writing hist
ory in the work we do for the
men and women of tomorrow.
We are happy that our Shriners Hospitals have made America "crippled child
ren conscious" and that many charitable-minded friends are joining ut in this glorious
work. I am sure that all who have helped in any way find great joy in the words spoken
by the world's greatest humanitarian when He said, "For inasmuch as you have done
it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me."
May God bless everyone who has aided this sacred cause.
