Nine Hornets Ready
For District Meet

up on Saturday afternoon. The
first two finishers in each event
will enter the? state meet the fol
lowing weekend at the University
of Oregon.

lay team, which grabbed first
place honors in last weekend's dis
trict meet on Modoc Field, will be
composed of Russell. Beaslev. Rol
ler, and Maupin. In Ihe district
meet, Russell snared two firsts,
the 100 and 440, while ' Maupin
was tirst in the 220 and Beasley
inird. ranking him as an alternate.
Other Huskies entering the state
meet will be Roller who copped
the low hurdles event and Marks,
who was second in the high hur
dles. Malin's traveling squad will be
composed of first place winner
Rick Illian in the pole vault, third
place winners Ron Mullanix and
Dave DeMemtt in the shot put
and discus and 880 and high hur
dles respectively while the Mus
tang relay squad, which finished
third at district, will be made up
of Stan Petrasek, Abe Kirkpatrick,
Don Micka and Burt McCollough.

The combined team of Dave
Ragland, Calvin Casebier, Gary
Pippin and Blofsky will make up
the Henley relay team which
placed third in the sub-district
meet held last weekend, in Ash
land.
Ammcrman's squad grabbed
three first places in that meet,
Gober winning the high jump. Ken
dall ihe mile event and Swisher
the discus.
Gober. in winning the high jump
with a leap of 5 feet, 6'j inches
was far short of his record-break
ing leap of 5-11, which he set in
the county meet two weeks ago
The springy-legged senior has al
most completely recovered from
an ankle sprain that he suffered
near the end of the basketball
season which has hampered his
perlormances for the Hornet track
team.
Swisher was also far short of
his top effort of 133 feet, 10 inches
in the discus event, which came
in a dual meet with the KU Jay
vces earlier in the season. At
Ashland last week, Swisher tossed
the platter 118 feet. 6 inches for
top honors while placing second
in the shot put.
Kendall's time of 5:01 in the
mile was his best effort of the
year. He has won most of the
dual meets in that event in the
county this past spring. However,
he suffered his initial defeat in
the Klamath Falls Invitational
when outlasted by Chiloquin's
Doug Van Warmer.
McMurtry Seeks
Valdez Rematch
PORTLAND AP) Irish Pat
McMurtry of Tacoma, Wash., is
hoping today for another televi
sion fight in New York with Nino
Valdez. Tuesday night McMurtry
won a unanimous 10-round deci
sion here over Garvin Sawyer of
New York.
McMurtry said he thinks this
qualifies htm : for another fight
with Valdes, who knocked him
out in a TV fight at Madison
Square Garden last year.

run bulge in the top of the first
inning off a successful bunt by
Bob Lapsley, a walk, and two suc
cessive Malin errors. From here
on they were never In trouble.
Lapsley led the KU nine collect
ing 2 for 3. all singles, Webb
added a pair of singles while
Sherm Allen, Wally Palmberg
and Gary Head each contributed
doubles. The longest knock of the
day was Carlton Willey's triple.
