THE BRIDAL PARTY
NEW YORK (UPD-The bridal
party originated back In the mar
riage-by-capture days. Loyal tribes
men and close friends of the
bridegroom helped him invade en
emy territory to capture his bride.
While he escaped with her, his
trienas stayed behind to hunt off
her relatives. Hence, our ushers
and best man.
The maid-of-honor and brides
maids can be traced directly to
Saxon England. The oldest wom
an tended the bride before the
wedding, making the bridal wreath,
least decorations and dressing the
bride. Earlier, attendants protect
ed the maiden from capture. And
in Rome, they acted as witnesses
to the marriage.
Ring bearers and flower Birls
symbolized a fruitful union.
