Car Plunges,
Driver Escapes
James Laurence Chipman, 41, of
Chiloquin escaped injury Sunday
afternoon when the car he was
driving tumbled 20 feet down an
embankment at Modoc Point on
Highway 97.
Chipman told Oregon State Police
he was northbound when a south
bound car drove into the wrong
lane, and roared off after forcing
Chipman onto the shoulder, and
causing him to lose control of the
car.
Officers said the car traveled
to feet along the shoulder, then
skipped back across and off the
highway.
In the last decade the cancer
cure rates have gone up 32 per
cent. That means 38,000 additional
lives saved yearly. But the Amer
ican Cancer Society says 75.000
more could be saved by earlier
diagnosis and treatment.

BERLIN (AP)-The Soviet Em
bassy denied today that MIG fight
ers have begun regular patrols in
the air corridors linking isolated
West Berlin and West Germany.
There was a similar denial from
American officials.
The Soviet Embassy Issued its
statement in East Berlin after re
ports circulated abroad that a So
viet fighter squadron had been as
signed to patrol West Berlin s air-lifelines.
"This report is not true," said
J. W. Beburov, the chief Soviet
spokesman. "There has been no
change in the air corridor situa
tion on our side. The only change
has come from the American
side."
