OSC To Host
Science Slate
Plans for a nationwide series
of summer science training pro
grams for outstanding high school
students have been announced by
fhe National Science Foundation.
Oregon State College was select
ed to offer the training in the
Northwest.
The Oregon State College sum
mer program will be June 14 to 27
One hundred high school boys are
scheduled to attend. The grant will
pay for all tuition fees, living
expenses, and some travel expens
es for the hoys picked to partici
pate. Purpose of the experimental na
tionwide program is to encourage
scientific interests of high ability
high school students by orienta

in Oregon. Washington or Idaho
giving the training.
Students interested in the pro
gram should write Dean Gilfillan
for application blanks. Detailed in
formation will be furnished all
Northwest high schools. Students
finally selected must he recom
mended by lheir high school prin
cipal or science teachers.
Course work will cover all fields
of science. OSC professors will
instruct. Boys will have a chance
to observe operation of instru
ments sifth as nuclear reactors
and cyclotrons and to visit cam
pus research laboratories.
The NSF experimental program
at OSC will he coordinated with
the Junior Engineers and Scien
tists Summer Institute for high
school boys scheduled at the same
time.
