are out of school "until they can
convince me and the Clarke Coun
ty Board of Education that they
are willing to abide by the public
school regulations that apply to
all students white or colored
alike."
He said he couldn't "read any
racial issue or anything like that

Nichols said the group adopted
a uniform bf blue jeans, red shirts.

He said that the average cost
per year to the student of the cars
was M50. Those who worked to
pay for the cars averaged 17 5
hours of work a week.
Of the 125 licensed drivers in
the two classes 18 reported a total
of 23 accidents costing $5,010 Of
the 18. 9 girls reported 14 acci
dents. He said that a study of 23 seniors
showed that grades dropped from
2 36 before car ownership to 2.12

nine-day crime prevention drive
and proclaimed it a success.
Officers worked 12-houo shifts
without days off to put the equiv
alent of 200 additional policemen
on the streets.
"It was a huge success," said
Maj Don Bishop. He said the ex
ercise, called Operation 200. was:
