Council Hears
Garbage Plan
DORRIS Russell Shoemaker
appeared before the Dorris Cily
Council at ils regular meeting
Monday night. December 1, to dis
cuss his plans (or a possible fran
chise on garbage collection In Dor
ris. His proposed plans would exclude
anyone else hauling garbage for
hire. Householders wishing to haul
their own garbage would not be
affected by the agreement, but
would be requested to use dump
grounds only one day a week, pref
erably on Saturday. The dump
grounds would Be closed at all oth
er limes.
In return for a franchise. Shoe
maker would agree to keep burn
able refuse burned and roadways
clear.
The council authorized Virginia
hfcmilton. city clerk, lo contact Al
bert Tebbe, Yreka, Dorris city at
torney, in regard to the legal as
pects. Councilmcn believe that a gar
bage collection franchise cannot
be given unless a special ordinance
is passed with the costs handed
down to Shoemaker.
The council canceled its agree
ment with William R. Smith, as he
had not lived up to his agreement
with the city to maintain the care
of the dump in exchange for the
exclusive salvage rights.
The council made a study of
drainage survey plans as submit
ted by Oral Lewis, city engineer,
for the storm drainage system west
of town, and decided to file the
plans until funds are available for
work.'
The city clerk reported that the
city has received $1,000 in engineer
ing tunas- lor the current fiscal
year.

LEBANON', Ore. (AP) Two
cars collided 'here Monday, and
one shot out of control toward a
House.
When the car hit the house, It
kept right on going through
wall and out of sight into the
basement.

Shasta Way, recently spent a five
day leave at the Army's recrea
tion center at Garmisch in Germ-
any s Bavarian Alps. Cramer is
a personnel clerk in the 13th Ar
tillery's Battery A in Germany.
He entered the Army in January
1957 and completed basic training
at ford ord. the Zl-ye3r-old sol
dier is a 1956 graduate of Klam
alh Union High School.
