'Junior Miss Oregon' To Be Chosen Tonight

. Six popular and talented high
school senior girls from Oregon
communities will take part in the
final competition for the "Junior
Miss Oregon" title, at a dance at
the Klamath Auditorium tonight.
The awards to the winner and
two runnersup will be presented at
11 p.m., during the course of a
9 to l o'clock dance with music
by the Starlighters. The event is
sponsored, as in years-past, by the
Klamath Junior Chamber of Com
merce. Bob Flamme is chairman.
The award is made on the basis
of poise, personality, intelligence,
charm and beauty of face and
figure. The judging begins at a

the girls' appearance in sports
clothes, and will have an oppor
tunity to talk with them.
The girls will appear in formal
dress at the dance, and will again
be judged on the basis of ap
pearance. Ihey will also display a
three-minute routine of some tal
entsinging, dancing, musician
ship, dramatic reading, painting,
dress designing, etc., or they may
speak for three minutes on the
careers they wish to pursue.
Judges for the contest will in
clude "Corky" Corbctt of Bend, a
director of the State Junior Cham
ber of Commerce, and Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Thurston, Medford. It
is also hoped that Ed Bennett,
bpnngiield. Jaycees' slate presi
dent, will be able to attend to take
part in the judging.
The finalists include:
Kathy Heinzman, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heinzman,
Ashland, a student at Ashland
High School. Kathy, who plans to
become a teacher after attending
Southern Oregon College or Ore
gon State College, is sponsored in
this contest by the Ashland Jay
cees. Mary Evins. Crescent, is spon
sored by the Bend Jaycees. She
attends Gilchrist High School
where she is cheerleader lor the
basketball team, and expects to
attend business college in Eugene.

The winner of the Junior Miss
Oregon title will receive, in addi
tion to a coronet, an all-expense
trip to Mobile, Alabama, where
she will compete for the title of
Junior Miss America and $10,000 in
college scholarships. This contest
will take place in March, 19o9.
Admission to the dance is $1.25
