Fire Destroys
Section Shed
Principal fire in the Klamath
Falls area Tuesday was one that
totally destroyed a section shed
on the Great Northern Railroad's
right-of-way, about a h a 1 f mile
east of Ilomedale Road. The shed
was gone, and a quarter of an
acre of grass and some fence-
posts were on fire by the time the
county fire department arrived on
the scene, shortly after 2 p.m.
The city fire department put
out a grass fire at 105 Grant
Street Tuesday morning, and a
trash fire behind the garage at
8K0 California Avenue Tuesday aft
ernoon. Neither fire caused dam

'One of the problems is financ

and another is strengthening tne
laws so that convictions can be
secured in cattle theft cases."
Stanley was elected as president
of the county cattlemen at the an
nual meeting held last week at the
fairgrounds. He succeeds Bill
Marshall who served for two
terms.
The new president has been in
the cattle business for about 19
years. The firm, Roy Stanley &

BERT STANLEY
Hie Spring Lake district. Ray O.l
Petersen, county agent, remains
as secretary-treasurer.
Deputy District Attorney O. W.
Goakcy was a guest speaker at
the county convention and ex
plained that "mgthering-up" is the
big stickler in proving tnett cases
today. A brand, properly applied
to a young calf, even as young
two or three weeks, will be
permanent evidence of ownership
for the lite of the animal, n was
pointed out at the meeting. The
difficulty lies in getting the brands
applied to calves because tney
don't all come on at the same
time and because of the rush of
other spring ranch business.
Stanley says the first major
project of the organization will be;
to increase the membership of the i
association, lt is estimated that
less than one third of the men
who actually raise or feed cattle in
the. county are members of the
Klamath County Cattlemen's As
sociation. The state convention is being
held at Redmond from October 30
through November 2 and the offi
cers urged all local cattlemen to
attend, if possible. George Russell
of Vale in concluding his second
term as president. Kent Magru-
der of Llatskame Is first vice
president. This will be the first
annual meeting at the new fall
date.
Last minute reservations may be
made by calling Petersen at the
county agents office.
