Hotel Strike
Terminated
PITTSBURGH (AP)-Five ma
jor Pittsburgh hotels began call
ing back workers today after a
22-day strike that ended Wednes
day night with some 2,300 em
ployes voting by nearly 2 to 1 to
end the walkout.
Pickets were removed from the
P e n n-S h e r a t o n, Pittsburgh
er, Webster Hall, Sherwyn and
Roosevelt hotels.
Management began accepting
guest reservations immediately
and announced that food and bev
erage service would be resumed
Friday.
The new three-year agreement
provides a IB-cent hourly package
wage increase for non-tipped em
ployes. For tipped workers, the pact
calls for a gradual reduction from
the present 43 and 44 hour work
week to 40 hours without loss of
pay.
Wage scales under the old con
tract were not disclosed.
The walkout began Oct. 1 and
cost the city an estimated million
dollars in revenue from the loss
of at least 10 conventions and oth
er trade. The last major Pitts
burgh hotel strike occurred in 1946
and lasted 53 days.
Six delegates to the American
Society of Anethesiologists convex
tion arrived here today only to
find that the convention had been
canceled several days ago be
cause ot the strike. One had come
all the way from Hong Kong. The
others were on vacations and
could not be reached in time.

Appealed By Man
BOISE, Idaho (API When
Kenneth P. Sanders appealed a
conviction for illegally buying a
nonresident hunting license, a Dis
trict Court jury found him guilty
anyway. He was fined $100 and
given two days in jail.
Now. Sanders says, the county
prosecutor has presented him with
a bill for $181.50 fees for the jury
that upheld his conviction.
He's back in court again appeal
Ine the bill. His attorney, Charles
Slout, claims it deprives Sanders
of his constitutional right to trial
tw jury. The prosecutor's office
tlaims that Idaho law allows
presentation of such a bill when
the case involves an appeal from
a lower court.

Agency's request for a 15 per
cent rate increase in shipments
of gift packages of fruit from
Oregon, to other parts of the
country.
The announcement was made
Wednesday by Public Utilities
Commissioner Howard Morgan,
who said it would save shippers
between $600,000 and $900,000 a
year.
Morgan said the proposed in
crease would have boosted the
rates to a point 255 per cent over
the 1947 rates.
The Medford and Hood River
areas ship nearly two million gift
packages of fruit annually.
