THIS OIL PAINTING, of contralto Marion Anderson, done
by Mrs. Emil (Vi) Biranowski of Klamath Falls, will hang
his month near the door in the Klamath County Museum,
place of honor delegated to the work of outstanding art
ists of the Klamath country. In her impression of the fa
mous vocalist, Mrs. Biranowski has caught tenderness in
the deep set eyes, strength of purpose, humility and wis
dom, according to critics. Mrs. Biranowski, who also paints
in water colors, has exhibited her work in Portland.

in the Pacific Northwest will lind
a telephone at the nearest farm-;
house. j
And the chances are better than j

That's the picture as figures of
the Rural Electrification Admin-(
istralion show it. The Oregon-Washington-Idaho
region, accord
ing to the statistics, is near the
top in the percentage of (arms
with electricity and telephones.
Washington, with 98.8 per centi
of its farms electrified, ranks
third in the nation, trailing only
Indiana and New Jersey. Oregon's!
score is 97.3 per cent and Idaho's
97.1 per cent. j

Although telephone-equipped
farmhouses are fewer, each of the
Northwest stales has made an
even greater gain percentagewise
in this category.
Between 1950 and 1958, the num
ber of farms with telephone serv
ice increased in Washington trom
57.5 per cent to 80.6 per cent. In
Idaho, the increase was from 55.3
per cent to 74 per cent and in
Oregon from 50.3 to 76.4 per cent.

Klamath Valley Hospital after the
car in which he was the passenger
of Purl Campbell, 38. 2132 Laurel,
was struck by a vehicle driven

The Campbell car was turning
from Cable into the northbound
lane on Riverside when the acci
dent occurred. The intersection is
on the crest of a hill, which ren
ders visibility difficult. Police said
O'Callaghan. southbound, applied
his brakes when he saw the Camp
bell car but that he veered into
the northbound lane, striking the
other vehicle.
Although O'Callaghan received
a head injury, only Campbell was
hospitalized, and he was released
