New Board Head
Visits Klamath
Mrs. Moore Hamilton of Med-,
ford, Governor Holmes' new ap
pointment to the state board of ed
ucation, was in Klamath Falls ear
ly this week as part of her pro
gram to visit schools prior to her
first meeting with the state board.
She was the guest for luncheon
on Monday of Mrs. V. E. O'NeiU
who completed a seven-year term
on the state education board in
July and whose place on the board
she is taking. i
During her visit here she con
ferred with Winston D. Purvine,
Oregon Tech director and . spent
most of Tuesday on a tour of the
OT1 campus. She plans a return
visit after the faU term at OTI
has started. i
Mrs. Hamilton Is a former news
paper woman and has been active
in PTA and other school work at
Medford for many years. Her hus
band is postmaster there and they
are parents of three children who
were educated in Medford schools.

Group Meet Held
CRESCENT The entertain
ment committee of the Crescent
Community Club met Friday, Au
(rust 1, in the clubhouse to lay
plans for the hunters' barbecue to
be held September 27. This
be the club's second annual fund
raising project. Since the com
munity club is only in its third
year of existence, much is yet to
be done hclore the building will be
completed. Last year, the barbe
cue was n success with approxi
mately 3110 people served.
Sunday. August 17, the c I u h
sponsored a "fun diiy " for the
children of the community. Games,
races and the serving of free ice
cream and pop constituted the
day's program.
Dennis lle;iter won first prize in
the boys' s;ick race: Charlotte
Might and Jiil-cna Taylor tied
the girls' race. The three-lrcued
race was won by Dennis and Terrv
Petrie. Charlotte Might. Dennis
Heater and Brent Stumbaiigh were
the winners in the watermelon eat
ing contest.
The afternoon's din came tn a
close with all the children partici
pating in a baseball game.
