NEW YORK (AP) The stock choice 25.75 and up: a few lots
market held part of a moderate standard and low good 23.75-24.50
recovery late this afternoon in
sluggish trading.
Volume for the day was esti
mated at about the same as Mon
day's 2.390,000 shares.
Gains of key stocks ran from
fractions to about a point.
Prices improved in what brokers
called a technical recovery from
a two-day selloff.
Steels were pacemakers in the
rebound, aided by a higher oper
ating rate for the industry and
improved sales. Studebaker-Pack-and
and American Motors were
fractionally higher.
Lukens halved an early two
point gain. U.S. Steel was a point
to the good. Allegheny Ludlum
made a similar gain.

Fire Listed
The first man-caused fire to be
reported to the 'Klamath Forest
Protective Association in several
weeks was located when chance
brought a blade operator into in
proximity Monday morning. The
day was hazy, so it was really
good luck to find the fire belore
it became a big one. The loca
tion was the north fork of Sprague
liner and the lire was apparently
caused by a lisherman who laid a
j cigarette on a log and. then for
got it. The Bly crew of the KFPA
i brought the fire under control be
fore it had passed the quarter?
acre category.
Another fire was reported to the
KFPA Tuesday morning. Caused
hy lightning, it was situated in
the Kings Cabin area and was
brought under control by a Weyer
haeuser Timber Company crew
which happened to be nearby.
Apart from these tree fires, no
grass fires or any other kind of
fires were reported to any of the
four Klamath Falls fire depart
ments during the 24-hour period
ending Tuesday morning.

caused a fire Sunday which burned
two persons, one of them seriously.
Dick Stagg, about 26, son of
Mrs. Lewis Winfield of Dorris. was

The flash blaze burned one of his
arms.
Stagg had to run through the
flames to get out of the pit and
was severely burned about the
head, face and arms. He is re
ceiving medical care at his moth
er's home.
