Liz Snapping Out Of Grief
Over Late Husband's Death
By BOB THOMAS
AP Motion Picture Writer
HOLLYWOOD '(AP (-Notes and
comment on the Hollywood scene
" Elizabeth Taylor is coming out
of her bereavement over the death
of Mike Todd. She is often dating
Arthur Loew Jr., scion of the
show business family and a friend
ince her early years at MGM.
And Liz has indicated that she will
be available for film roles that
appeal to her.
"After Todd's death, she didn't
care if she worked or not," said
Richard Brooks, who directed her
In "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." "She
finished the picture only because
Mike was so hepped up on it. Now
she wants to work some more.
Brooks said it was touch and go
when Liz returned to work after
the tragedy, A line like "You don't
know what It is to lose someone
you love" would break her up and
work had to be suspended for the
rest of the day. ,
But the results are worth all
the trials. "Cat" is a masterpiece
of sustained dramatics, and Liz
never looked lovelier. . . .

Audrey Hepburn is not worried
about being directed by her hus

in "Green Mansions. After all,
she argues, they have appeared
together in a movie ( War and

and on TV ( Mayerung ).
"Marriage is a pretty complex
relationship," she says. "If Mel

Baby Traded
For Pickup
TULSA, Okla. (AP) A Pennsyl
vania couple have admitted trad
ing their baby for a pickup truck
Detective Walter Turner said a
charge of child abandonment has
been drawn up against Richard
Readdy, 26, Shamokin, -Pa., and
his wife, Helene Margaret Read
dy, 20.
He said Jesse Lester Burger, 42,
El Dorado Springs, Mo., owner of
the pickup truck, would probably
be charged with conspiring to vi
olate the child abandonment law
The 5-month-old boy, Paul An
drew, was placed - in the Tulsa
Juvenile Shelter.
Jail Matron Mildred Buchanen
said Mrs. Readdy told her she is
now about one month pregnant.
But a doctor who examined the
woman said it is still too early to
tell.
Mrs. Rcaddv's father, William
Murphy of Shamokin, called Tulsa
police and offered to come to Tul
sa if authorities would grant him
custody of the child. He was told
it would depend on a juvenile
court hearing.
Tulsa police said the alleged
swap came about this way:
The Pennsylvania couple out
of work, almost broke and without
a car were hitchhiking to Cali
fornia, where Readdy hoped to
find a iob.
In Joplin, Mo., they were picked
up by Burger, driving witn nis
wife and 7-year-old daughter to
Tulsa.
Burger was quoted as saying:
"In a kidding way T said, 'I'd like
to have that baby.' Readdy said,
'Boy, you sure could have it.' And
his wife agreed.
Mrs. Readdy was quoted as say
ing: "He (Burger) kept saying
how the baby would be better off
with them than with us. I didn't
wain lu UJ 1L. i gave 111
Police exhibited a hastily scrib
bled bill of sale which Burger said
Readdy demanded to make the
swap "legal." It showed Burger
had transferred his :957 pickup
truck to Readdy for $21.50, al
though police -said no money
changed hands.
In Tulsa Burger's sister Mrs,
Gladys Prather notified police
who then went to her home and
arrested Burger and picked up the
baby. The Readdys were slopped
in a pickup truck 10 miles from
here.

"It's difficult if you choose to

you have to have help in rearing

"We have no servants." Yvonne
snapped. "We have people to help

Yvonne said she is wary ol some

"I wonder just how much kids
