NEW YORK (UP1) Proponents
of the daytime quiz show fad of
ten use the argument, "Well,
they're live and you never know
what'll happen."
Of course, not all viewers of these
shows look for the unexpected.
There is evidence that a few
them are more interested in get
ting their hands on the loot under
the popular "home viewer entry"
plan.
Nevertheless, the unexpected
does sometimes happen on these
daytime quizzes to give them some
added zip.
On a recent "For Love or Mon
ey" program, a pretty young lady
contestant had to choose between
accepting a sum of money or a
non-monetary prize. The problem
was that she didn't know what
the prize was and she didn't know
how much money she could have.
While she was trying to decide,
her husband darted to the stage
from his seat in the audience and
whispered advice to her ear.
"He told me to take the mon
ey." she told emcee Bill Nimmo.
"So I'll take the money.
The obedient wife was award
ed the cash prize of three cents.
The item she turned down
a set of golf clubs. "And I was go
ing to ik& the prize," she wailed
On "Play Your Hunch." emcee
Merv Griffin introduced a lady
contestant to a man and sudden
ly felt a chill in the air. The con
testants murmured politely to each
other ,and looked away.
After the show, the man
plained to Griffin that he and
'vomnn had been married and
arated 12 years ago. Hadn't
seen
each other since.
