Iowa Veterans
Benefits Due
Application forms for the Iowa
Korean veterans bonus are now
available from the Oregon Depart
ment of Veterans Affairs in Salem,
George E. Day, claims representa
tive for the state agency, reported
recently.
Claims must be filed by Decem
ber 31, 1960, with the Korean Serv
ice Compensation Board. State
House, Des Moines, Iowa.
The Iowa bonus pays $10 per
month of domestic duty and $12.50
per month of foreign duty, for
service of 120 days or more be
tween June 27, 1930, and July 27,
19S3. Maximum payment is $500.
The applicant must have been an
Iowa resident for six months just
prior to his active duty.
The widow, children or parents
of a veteran who died in or after
service of injuries or disease in
curred on active duty during the
war period may receive $500.
County Court To
Attend Meeting
AU three members of the Klam
ath County Court will attend a con
vention of the National Association
of County Officials in Portland Au
gust 10-14
County Judge C H. Mack said
Oregon is host for the annual con
vention and that E. W. Gowen and
Jerry V. Rajnus, commissioners,
would serve on host committees.
Also planning to attend are Mrs.
Eva Cook, county treasurer;
Charles DeLap, county clerk: W. R,
Canton, county engineer, and pos
sibly other county officials.

Range Betterment Program Nears End In Fort Rock
FORT ROCK - The Bureau of
Land Management's three-y ear
program of range improvement of
public domain lands in the Fort
Rock grazing district is nearing
completion. The program is fi
nanced largely by funds appropri
ated under the Federal Soil and
Moisture Act.
Accomplishments here according
to Pierce Morin, range manage
ment assistant and project fore
man, include 10 miles of division
fences between allotments. Sixteen
water holes, for better range utili
zation, have been constructed for
eight permittees.
Spraying to kill rabbit brush on
800 acres was a project this spring.
Crews have plowed 1,120 acres for
reseeding as well as seeding much
of the amount. Currently working
on the project are Floyd Morin of
Roseburg and Vera Johnson, Klam
ath Falls.
Three cattle guards have been
installed. The well being drilled on
Green Mountain will serve two per
mittees. Two 3,000 gallon water
storage tanks have also been installed.
With completion of an access
road to Hayes Butte the crew will
move to Silver Lake where they
