Starting July 1, the Klamath
Production Credit Association and
406 similar associations scattered
throughout the United Stales ini
tiated a 25th anniversary celebra
tion which will continue until June
30. 1959. Don W. Kririer, secretary
treasurer of the Klamath Falls
credit institution, announced this
week.
Krider said the national obser
vance was spread over a 12-month
period to cover the chartering
dates of all associations. The Klam
ath association received its chart
er January 15, 1934.
"Organized during the depression
of the early 1930's and developed
during a period marked by two
wars and a major agricultural rev
olution, production credit associa
tions have demonstrated that farm
ers and ranchers, working togeth
er, can operate their own credit
business on a sound, economical
basis," said Krider.
"Besides providing themselves
with 15 billion dollars of credit,
the farmer and rancher owners of
the 497 associations have, since or
ganization, repaid all but $3.9 mil
lion of the 120 million dollars
which the government invested in
the svstem under the Farm Cred
it Act of 1933. They now have
more than 112 million dollars of
their own money invested in cap
ital stock and their associations
have over $100 million dollars in
their surplus accounts and another
17 million dollars in reserves
2ainst future losses.".
While the Klamath association
will use various methods during
the anniversary year to call attcn
tion to its 25 years of service to
agriculture in Klamath. Lane, ms
