Yreka Council Reaches
Tentative Annexation Pact
YREKA The Yreka City Coun
cil reached a tentative agreement
(or annexations of properties to
the east and west of the city limits
at a meeting on Thursday evening.

been received from Aubrey Nea
sham, slate historian in the De
partment of Beaches and Parks,
Sacramento, advising that it is his

of the California Legislature a bill

state historical monument at Fort

Syria Fires

DAMASCUS. Syria (AP)-Syri-an
antiaircraft guns fired at an

naissance mission.
The unofficial Syrian news
agency SNA reported, meanwhile,
that the nine-day-nld military re
gime in Iraq will announce a
temporary constitution within the
next 48 hours.
The 70-article constitution will
legalize the proclamation of a re
public made by army officers
July 14 when King Faisal II was
killed and his pro-Western govern
ment overthrown, SNA said, and
will declare Iraq part of the "en
lire Arab motherland." This ap
parently would fall short of for
mally joining the United Arab
Bepublic of Egypt and Syria.
Iraq will be governed under the
temporary constitution until a
plebiscite, is held to name a pres

ALTERATIONS
ALTURAS Major alterations
are being made to the banquet
room, coffee shop and exterior of
the Modoc Hotel, Alturas. The
coffee shop entrance features pic
ture windows, redwood trim and
red brick. The exterior of the hntel
building and its motel units are
being painted scafoam green with
Victorian red used as a trim. The
construction is being done by Gib
hnns and Zick and the painting by
P. Ravcncraft, Bedding. James
Munroe is local representative for
the Redding firm. Heryford and
Brook are the electricians.

restricted to cases where the per

to numerous calls regarding park
ing violations in the area. He said,
"If they are parking Illegally, we
will enforce the law by issuing
tickets, that's all we can do."
The council also reported on rev
enues from parking meters show
ing a decrease for 1957-58 com
pared to 19.W-57. The revenues for
1957-b8 amounted to $ll,024.4i, com
pared to (he previous $11, 614. K).
A report from the city housing
commission to the city council dis
closed a profit of $136 for the
month of June, and $2.424 65 for
the year, from operation of t h a
city housing project.
