Fear Squeeze
BONN, Germany (AP) The
free world's radio hams fear thev
will he squeezed out by increasing
military and technical demands
for ultrashort wavebands.
The threat to the radio ama
teurs is the main theme of the
mirth annual -(invention of the
International Amateur Radio
Union, which opened a week's
session last nicht. ,
About 80 delegates from 14 Eu
ropean countries as well as ob
servers from :he United States
and Australia are attending.
The convention will prepare
recommendations for improving
the amateur share of wavebands.
They will be submitted to the con
ference of governments on alloca
tion of wavelengths to be held in
Geneva next year.
Delegates said demands on the
wavelengths used by hams were
increasing from military, shipping
and police networks. They cited

Army Shoots
Korea Thief
SKOUL (AP)-The U. S. Army
said a Korean thief was shot and
killed today by an Army guard
who caught him stealing.
The guard was Sgt. J lager B.
Blevins, 25, Ctrcleville, Ohio.
The Army said Rlevins, on spe
cial guard duly after a series of
thefts in the 7th Division Engineer
Company, spoltci two Koreans
attempting to carry away water
pumps.
Blevins "called halt three times
and fired three shots into the
air," the announcement said.
'The Koreans, still carrying the
pumps, continued to run. ihc
guard then fired two shots at
them. Both shots struck Ihc same
person. The second Korean es
caped."
The 7th Division and Korean
police both are investigating. No
charges have been filed.

outside the hotel suite of Abdul
Majid Abbas, United Nations del
egate of the overthrown govern
ment of Iraq,, who reported his
life had been threatened by an
Iraqi army officer in this. country
Police are investigating the
threat, reported 'o them yesterday
ny telephone. No details of the
reported threat were revealed.
Abbas remained in his suite at
the Stanhope Hotel throughout
yesterday's debate in the II. N.
Security Council on the Middle
East crisis.
A U. N. official said Abbas had
sent word that he was ill.
The 11-nation U. N. Security
Council did not act on Abbas last
Friday, and thus left him in Iraq's
.seat although Ambassador Hash-
im Jawad arrived that day as the
accredited delegate of the revolu
tionary Iraqi government. His
credentials are still under consid
oration.

ing a petition opposing "unjusti
fied intervention of American
troops in the internal affairs of
Lebanon."

President Eisenhower's brother
planned meetings with leaders of
all Nicaraguan political factions
today after sidestepping criticism
of U. S. support for Latin-Amer
ican dictators.
Dr. Mnlon Eisenhower listened
calmly yesterday to opposition
leaders who call the Somoza fam
ily's long rule in Nicaragua a dic
tatorship. He gave no answer to
them or to youth demonstrations
carrying a sign asking "More eco
nomic aid. less arms."
But Eisenhower firmly denied a
charge that the United States was
taking advantage of Latin-Amer
ican countries for its own econom
ic benefit. It came during an out
burst of ami-American feeling at
a meeting with university grad
uates after his arrival in Nica
rasua on a Central American fact
linding tour.
Dr. Juan Zelaya. leader of a
dissident offshoot from the Lib
eral party of the late President
Anastasio Somoza. accused Wash
ington of keeping dictators in
power with gifts of arms and of
economically exploiting Latin -American
nations.
Eisenhower replied that the
United Stales did not try to hold
down other nations' economies.
'.The Vulh is that the United
Stales, realizes the more trade
there is, the more olher couniries
prosper, the more they buy from
us." he said.
"I hae never witnessed a bet
ter demonstration of the need for

gentle type, and a comedy team
usually requires one member lo
predominate. Next season they
will mix only six times.

other singers lose their sponsors?
The answer is not in the ratings
hut in sales. The sales pitch on
Eddie's show was aimed at the
sponsor's king - size cigarette
Sales went up sharply. Hence the
renewal.
Never one to shun work, Eddie
fallowed his strenuous season with

hotspot. But he plans to take the
rest of the summer off in Hawaii
with his wife Debbie Reynolds and
their two children.
