Filmland Couple Finds That
TV Tends To Make You Fat

the other day, singers Eydic
Gormo and Steve Lawrence
winced when their guest ordered
steak.
They ordered poached eggs, dry
toast and skimmed milk. Why the
diet, since neither looked heavy?
"You have to be thinner for
TV," said Lawrence, speaking tor
himself and his bride of six
months. "We've been playing
night clubs lately and our weight
was tine for that. But the TV pic
ture tends to broaden you."
Beginning July 13, for eight
weeks, the young couple replaces
the Steve Allen Show on NBC. It's
the first time they've had their
own show. Naturally, they're ex
cited and nervous and full of
plans. One is losing weight.
"You don't believe this," said
Lawrence, "but a fellow told me
people look different on NBC and
CBS. It has to do with their test
patterns and basic picture. CBS
tends to make the performer look
taller and thinner. NBC broadens
and shortens you slightly. The
NBC picture adds about five
pounds to your figure and re
moves about an inch m height.
Immediately, the Lawrences'
luncheon guest looked up from his
steak. Zounds I he thought. This
could be the TV story of the year.
