The Portland Beavers edged

The San Francisco Giants have
moved back into the National
League lead in what almost over
night has become a three-team
race. ;
The Giants slipped into a half-'
game, .004 percentage point lead
over Milwaukee by heating Pitts
burgh 5-4 Friday night afler the
Chicago Cubs had knocked off the
Braves 5-3.
The Cubs, winning six of Iheir
last seven and 10 of 13. are third,
only three games behind. Every
body else is below .500, in a vir
lual tie for fourth place.
Cincinnati tied St. Louis for
fifth, just a point behind Pitts
burgh, by taking a twi-night pair
from the Cardinals 8-3 and 2-1.
The Reds, Bucs and Cards all are
seven games behind.
Then comes Philadelphia. 7'4
games behind and just .004 per
centage points ahead of last place
Los Angeles after losing 8-6 to the
Dodgers. ' '
That leaves a spread of only
.012 percentage points and on
game over the last five cluhs.
In the American League,
Kansas City whittled New York's
