Mrs. A 1 m o n Burgess was in-
stallcd as new president of the
Federated Women's Club at the an
nual spring luncheon recently held
at the Yreka Methodist Church.
Other officers are Mrs. Roy Pruett,
vice president, and Mrs. Irving
Sawyer, secretary-treasurer.
Mrs. Adam Miller of Dorris was
installing officer. Following the in
stallation ceremony was the dedi
cation of chairmen and members
nd presentation of the president's
pin lo Mrs. Burgess by Mrs. J. H.
Evett.
Mrs. John Sutherlin presented the
club with a certificate of appre
ciation on behalf of the Girl Scout
Troop No. 237 for the club's spon
soring of the troop.
A program was presented by
Mrs. Sutherlin which included her
recitation of a poem and a reading
by Mrs. Lester Newton. The Rev.
H. C. Coleman of the Yreka Meth
odist Church sang two songs, with
Mrs. Nathan McNames as accom
panist at the piano.

Pythian Sisters, during the recent
meeting of the organization, con
ducted by Mis. Helena Schlueter,
most excellent chief.

Thomas were the new members
initiated.
Mrs. Schleuter. who attended the
recent slato meeting of Knights
of Pythias and Pythian Sisters at
Long Beach, announced that Mrs.
Quinter (Edith) Harris, a former
Yrekan now of Sacramento, was
elected grand guard of the (liiind

Lee Morford, member of the
Knights of Pythias, named l.it
month as the Yreka "Man of the
Year" by the Yreka Chamber of
Commerce, was honored with a
standing vole of applause.
Final plans were made for the
Pylhian sponsored dance fur the
graduating eighth graders follow
ing their graduation.

THE OUTSTANDING CENTERPIECE on the tea table for the OTI Faculty Wives
and Women's Club annual tea for OTI women graduates on June 7, was an unusual and
artistic arrangement of vantana orchids qn a silvered manzanita branch, illuminated
with florist lights. Sprays of cimbidium orchids were used to decorate the rooms. The
orchids were sent from Hawaii by C. C. Grewell, wife of the supervisor of industrial
technology.
Guests were invited to the Winston D. Purvine home for the afternoon tea
hours, 2 to 5 p.m.

cil No. 231, Degree of Pocahontas

Mrs. Sottana presided at the
meeting in the absence of Mrs.

honoring Great lncohnce Carl R.
Lemke from the Sacramento Coun
cils. Plans were made for a pot-
luck and "Fathers Day" party for
the next meeting.
Mis. Rita Renning received the
coin award, and dimes were found
by Mrs. Naomi Long and Mrs
Renning. Dime cakes and coffee
were served by Mrs. Ruth Patter
son, Mrs. Holder and Mrs. Doughty.

WEDDING PLANNED
A wedding next month is beine
planned by Betty Hale of Redding
and Mitchell Crowe of Castella.
The engagement was announced
recently by Mrs. Alice Hale of
Redding, mother of the bride-to-be.
Betty is a graduate of Shasta
Union High School, class of '57.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crowe of
Castella are parents of the pros
pective bridegroom. He attended
Dunsmuir High School and Shasta
College. ' -
July 27. has been set as the wed
ding date.
The Philippine Republic became
independent on July 4, 1946.
