Ecuador Has
Respect For

QUITO, Ecuador (API-In this
land of the Equator there's a deep
liking and respect for the United
States.
Traditionally Ecuadoreans have
held out the hand of friendship.
Today that cordiality is probably
more pronounced than ever be
cause of Vice President Richard
JI. Nixon's recent visit.
Ecuadoreans. like the peoples of
ether Latin-American countries,
have their " lomic problems.
But most of m feel that all
can be soli' ith understanding
and help.
The name Ncex-on is still on the
lips of many Ecuadoreans. That
includes the bronzed Indians, who
make up over 50 per cent of the
population; the Mestizos (mixed),
who account for 25 per cent; the
15 per cent Negro and 10 per cent
white. Total population is four
million.
"Senor Nixon left Ecuador with

Jail Sentence

Donald Keeton, who went AWOL
in a rented plane to see his girl
friend in Dallas, Tex., faces 30
days at hard labor and a reduc
tion in rank.
A court-martial at Kcesler Air
Force Base convicted 19-year-old
Keeton on an AWOL charge yes
terday and sentenced him to be
broken to airman basic, forfeit
$65 of pay and 30 days hard labor.
The sentence is subject to review.
Keeton rented a plane at near
by Gulfport June 12, eluded mili
tary and civilian aircraft search
ing for him and landed in a field
near Tyler, Tex.
When arrested two days later at
his mother's home in Dallas, he
said he made the flight to see 17-year-old
Doris Lynn Bowling.

Boy Tumbles Into
Mop Bucket, Drowns
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)-One-
year-old Albert Hurt tumbled from
his bed into a mop bucket full of
water and drowned.
His mother Mrs. Albin E. Hurt,
17, said she was cleaning her
three-room house when she decid
ed to rest for a moment.
When she returned to the room
10 minutes later, she said, she
found the infant head down in the
bucket beside the bed.
It was Albert's first birthday.
