has run the full cycle, returning
to Paramount to play in her first
film since the war, "Party Crash
ers.
"This place used to be bustling
when I was here last." she re
marked as she walked through
the studio streets. "1 guess I ex
pected it to be that way when I
came back. Instead, 1 go into the
wardrobe department and find it
run by a skeleton crew."
She returns to Hollywood a dif
ferent woman. When she did her
last film here "Son of Fury"
with lyrone Power she was
flighty, erratic, a problem star
Few suspected the mental agonies
she was enduring.
Today at 43 she is sHK- a beauty
a charming, composed woman
with a perspective on her own
life. And she said she is a better
actress.
'I think you're hound to ma
ture as a pertormer with the
years," she commented. "1 know
a great deal more alwut myself
now."
The Farmer comeback started
in Kurcko, Calif., where she went
a year ago alter her parents died
at her Seattle home. She started
a new life as a bookkeeper and
no one was aware of her former
fame.
Her life was changed when n

sell came to town. He recognized
her at once, told her she shouk!
return to acting. He persuaded
Iter to go to San Francisco with
an eye toward working in little
theaters there. Then came all the
publicity and wham! Things start
ed happening.
She has sung on the Ed Sulli
van Show and emoted on Play
house W). Studio tine and in a TV
series with Lloyd Nolan. There
re more pictures in the wind lor
nor, but most of all she would
like to do a Broadway show.
"1 think that would be the best
thing for me now." she said. She
has read sex oral scripts and has
one hot possibility.
Recently, she married Mikesell
who has been managing her ca
recr. Now he has a TV job ofter
in Indiana and they are weighing
whether he should take it.
"I'd go with him, of course."
she said. "The main thing in a
marriage is to be together. 1

I asked her if she thought her
return was a good idea, since it
brought with it many unpleasant
memories.
"I'm glad I did it." she said

ering Heights" were crowded into
90 minutes of television when
"Show of the Month" i CBS-TV)
presented its adaptation of the
Emily Bronte novel. It was too
much for the small screen.
If one believed the evidence of
television on Friday evening.
"Wuthcring Heights" is little more
than soap opera. If one believes
the evidence of millions of readers
in the past 110 years, it is much
