Camp Easter Seal Draws
National Acclaim For Aid
Camp Easter Seal, Oregon's sum
mer camp specially designed for
crippled children and young adults,
is attracting nationwide attention,
according to Ernest M. Jachctta,
Portland attorney and president of
the Oregon Society for Crippled
Children and Adults, which oper
ates the camp.
Persons interested in a similar
camp for the crippled children in
their home states have visited the
camp and watched it in operation
and countless mail inquiries have
been received from eastern and
middlewestern states, Jachetta re
ported. Camp Easter Seal "fills a very
definite need for Oregon's crip
pled children," Jachetta stated.
"It gives them a psychological
'lift' to know they can go to camp

"make it unlawful to destroy, de
face or remove certain boundary
markers on Indian reservations,
and to trespass on Indian reser
vations to hunt, fish or trap."
Much of the testimony revolved
around hunting and fishing tres
pass provisions, which carry a
maximum penalty of $300 fine and
six months in jail.
George told the committee only
about 10 per cent of non-Indian
fishermen who fish in Colville
reservation waters obtain the
tribe's $2 license. The Indians use
the permits in cooperation with
Washington State to maintain fish
stocks in reservation waters.

Klamaths of Oregon were repre

Located on picturesque North
Lake of Ten Mile Lake in Coos
County, Camp Easter Seal covers
80 acres and has all the natural
resources for a camp, including
water for swimming, boating and
fishing. All buildings are designed
to make it easy for youngsters
in wheel chairs, on crutches and
wearing braces to move around
The regular staff includes a reg
istered nurse, three practical nurs
es from the hospital in Coos Bay
and an activities staff of trained
camp leaders.
There are four 10-day sessions
each summer and each session is
divided into age groups so they will
be compatible. The final session is

plained that seriously crippled
children can be accompanied by a
friend or relative.
The camp is one of. several proj
ects of the Oregon Society for
Crippled Children and Adults which
is staging its annual Easter Seal
sale at this time. Sale of Easter
Seals is the prime source of rev
enue for the society.

Lefty Wilder To Act As
MC For Basketball Meet
KLAMATH AGENCY - Lefty
(Chief Wild Eaglet Wilder will be
master of ceremonies for the Na
tional All-Indian Invitational Basketball-
Tournament to be held in
Chiloquin March 19 through March
22.
Lefty, well known .throughout
the Basin, operates a service sta
tion and museum near Fort Klam
ath with his wife. They make most
of their own craft work including
moccasins, headgear, jewelry and
dresses. Lefty is also an artist
and displays some of his art works
in his museum. He took some
prizes at the All-Indian Days in
Sheridan, Wyoming last summer.
Wilder, although handicapped by
the loss of an arm, has had ex
perience in sports. His left arm
brought him national fame in 1930
when he was a four letter man
at Chemawa High School, and was
mentioned in Ripley's "Believe It
Or Not" for his athletic prowess. 7
He was one of the original tourn- i
ament committee that started the
All-Indian tournament and worked
with it for two years.
He is chairman of the Boy Scout
committee in the Fort Klamath
area. He has also coached a group
of youngsters in tribal Indian
dancing.
