Yinners Told
WEED Winners of the 1958 Bank
of America achievement awards
were announced by Gerald Kubli,
Weed High School prinicpal, this
week. The winners were selected
by a faculty committee on the ba
sis of superior records with major
emphasis on scholarship, extracur
ricular endeavor and prospects for
future contributions to mankind
Nancy Fruzza, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. .James Fruzza, received
the trophy plaque award in the
. field of science and mathematics
This engraved trophy is designated
for students demonstrating excel
lence in a major field of study.
Certificates of merit were won by
three other seniors who were
judged outstanding in a specific
atudy subject. Mary Francis Rey
nolds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
C. C. Reynolds, won the certificate
in liberal arts; Demetria Fotopoul-
os, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete
Fotopoulos, in vocational arts;
James Ewing, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Ewing, in fine arts. -
Nancy, as the plaque winner, will
go through additional screening to
determine who will advance to zon
al competition April 24 at Redding.
First place zone winners in each
of the above named four major
fields will qualify automatically for
one of the two Northern California
finals. They are assured of at least
$100 and may receive as much as
$1,000. Winners of second and third
places at the zone events in each
of the four fields will receive $50
and $25 respectively.
Finals will be held in May at
San f rancisco for Bay Area coun
ties and at Sacramento for all oth
er Northern California counties
south to and including Kern. Sim
ilar competitions are conducted in
Southern California.
Nearly 600 awards are made in
the program, including trophy
plaques, ribbons, certificates and
individual cash prizes totaling $54,-900

Fort Klamath Grange meeting
In regular session March 4, hud

cey of Klnmoth Falls and Mr. and
Mrs. Olson of Roscburg. Mrs. Es
sie Olson is Pomona lecturer of
Douglas County. Olson is currently
employed ns electrician at the
Johns-Mnnville plant. They arc
members of Rivcrsdule Grange in
Douglas County.
Seldon Kirk, who recently re
turned from official trihal busi
ness in Washington, D.C., stated
he had enjoyed a February 4 meet
ing with Grunge No. 1, the origi
nal grange of Pntrnns nf MiivhnnH.
