Ends In Jail
BOSTON Wl-How much does it
cost to take an 18,000-mile ride in
a taxi cab?
Two years in jail, said Federal
Judge William T. McCarthy.
He imposed that sentence on
Robert L. Smith, 31, Cleveland,
Tenn.
Smith was accused of stealing
his employer's taxi and taking it
on a three-month joy ride, logging
18,000 miles.
Judge McCarthy remarked
Smith needs a long rest after such
an arduous trip.

Reports from all the committees
involved in the Klamath County
Agricultural Outlook Conference
will be heard Friday starting at
1:30 p.m. in the Mills School audi
torium. Following the rending of
the reports Professor Marlon D.
Thomas, agricultural . economist
from Oregon State College, will dis
cuss the farm outlook.
Committees reportini? will con
cern livestock, farm crops, 4 - H
Clubs, home economics, land use.
and poultry. These groups have
been making their studies and com
piling their reports for the past
two months. The purpose guiding
the 130 members of the conference
has been to prepare and make
available information wliic' will be
helpful in local farm and home
planning, according to Klamath
County Agent C. A. Henderson.
The' public is Invited to attend
the meeting and hear the reports
which will bo published in the Her
ald and News at a later date.

Damage Suit
Names Actor

damage suit has been brought
against actor Dana Andrews by a
studio that claims he frequently
was too intoxicated to work dur
ing the filming of a picture.
Advised of the action, the 47-year-old
actor said: "1 deny all
the charges. It's ridiculous and
childish. This is a conflict of per
sonnlities."
The suit was filed In Superior
Lourt by Waverly Productions
Inc., which claimed it had to in
terrupt the shooting of the picture
at least 20 times at locations in
Mexico because Andrews couldn't
work. The company said he left
Mexico before finishing his work.
It asked to be freed from a con
tract under which it was to oav
the actor $100,000 or 10 weeks of
work.
