Not only did video pay close to

Actress Eyes
Marriage Bid
HOLLYWOOD ( Actress Shar
on Lee today mulled a California
fruit grower offer to set up
$500,000 trust fund for her if she
will marry him.
"I need time to think," she said
yesterday at a news conference
called by her and Tony Vito in
his apartment to explain the sta
tus of their romance. Both con-
armed the offer.
Vito, 38. an ex-Marine from
Boston, said of his offer: "I'm not
trying to influence Sharon by this.
I merely want her to know that
if she marries me she won't have
tu support me."
The blonde Miss Lee. 27, said
when she recently divorced singer
uavia Mreet alter less than a
month of marriage that she helped
support him. Street and actress
Debra Paget have since married.
Vito lives in Hollywood when not
at Lodi, Calif., on business. Miss
Lee said they met at a Hollywood
party and have been dating since
fen. 12 But she has also been
going out with others.
Said Vito: "This town is full of
sharpshooters who want to know
what you can do for them but
Sharon is different. She won't
take anything.
'I gave her a mink stole and a
Cadillac and she made me take
them back. 1 had a birthday parly
all planned for 400 guests that
would have cost $5,000 or $10,000.
She canceled it. She thought it
would cost too much."
Said Sharon: "He's a wonderful
person, a fine person, but it all
happened too fast. We have never
been on a date without my man
ager or girl friend. I intend to see
him but I need time to think. Mar-
njriago must be built on love, not

California Migrant Influx
Shows Signs Of Easing Off
LOS ANGELES W The bold
rush to southern California shows
signs of easing off for the first
time in years.
Officials blame business condi
tions for the migration decline.
After World War II thousands
of 20th century pioneers trekked
overland to sunny southern Cali

land of the big boom, the bin deal
ana tne big job.
Almost a million and a half out-
of-state visitors came in during
1W7, for instance. Thousands
stayed on to get jobs and build
homes.
The population of Los Angeles
and its suburbs jumped from
1,970,358 in 1950 to an estimated
2.358.120 on Jan. 1, 1958.
Officials said the over-all popu

"Oh, the city's still growing; it's
just not growing as fast as it did
in the past 10 years," one official
said. .
The population has Increased
only 3,820 over last summer's of
ficial estimate, the City Planning
Department announced.
Border crossings last month
totaled 188,984 persons, compared
with 205,383 in January 19o7.
In December 1957, 218,175 per

1956, state records show,
"The business decline and the
migration decline go hand 'in

People are afraid to pack up for

The tourist influx, however, still
