Judge Named
For Contest
Mrs. Marcella Biglcr. chief
stewardess for West Coast Air
lines, will be one of the judges in
the Junior Miss Oregon of 1958
Contest which will be held in the
Mills School auditorium, February
18.
Dean DeWitt, chairman of the
sponsoring organization, the
Klamath County Junior Chamber
of Commerce, said that Mrs. Big
ler will arrive here late Tuesday
morning from Seattle and will be
met at the airport by top city of
ficials.
DeWitt added that Bob Fred
erickson, local advertising man
will emcee the show which will
start at 7:30 p.m. There are nine
girls competing for Junior Miss
Oregon and in addition to the
songs, piano playing and dramatic
readings by the girls, top local en
tertainment has been obtained, he
said.
Tickets are on sale at the cham
ber of commerce, Leo's Camera
Shop and the House of Shoes in
the Town and Country Shopping
Center. Price is 75 cents for adults
and 50 cents for students and chil
dren.
DeWitt said that the contest Is
a windfall for Klamath County
because a county girl will be Jun
ior Miss Oregon and will attend
the Azalea Festival in Mobile,
Alabama, to compete for $10,000
in college scholarships.
Judging at the Mobile festival
will be held February 27 through
Murch 1, with first prize a $5,000
scholarship, Second prizo is a $2
000 scholarship and three $1,000
scholarships for tho next three
places.

Pastor Wins
Promotion
The Rev.' Burton Alvis, pastor
of Peace Memorial Presbyterian
Church, South Sixth Street, has
been named to the staff of the
Synod of Oregon, to serve as
field director. The appointment,
a promotion, was announced this
week by the Board of Christian
Education of the Presbyterian
Church with headquarters in Phil
adelphia. He will assume his new
duties on April 16.
The family will remain in Klam
ath Falls until the end' of the
spring school term, then will
move to Portland where the syn
od headquarters are located.
Rev. Alvis is a native of Wash
ington, raised in Spokane aitd
Yakima. He earned his college
degree at Whitworth College and
received his seminary training it
the San Francisco Theological
Seminary, San Anselmo, Califor
nia. He served churches in North
ern California and in Portland be
fore coming to Klamath Falls.
He has been active in commu
nity affairs as a member of the
Klamalh Falls Kiwanis Club and
the Klamath Basin Council of
Churches. He has also held po
sitions in his denomination
