cookies, similarly decorated, just

Make and decorate the cookies,

RECIPES FOR COOKY HOUSE
MERRY CHRISTMAS COOKIES

1-3 cup soft shortening
1- 3 cup sugar
1 ess
2- 3 cud honev
. 1 tsp. lemon flavoring
; 2"i cups sifted Gold Medal
! Flour
j I tsp. soda
1 tsp. sail
Mix shortening., sugar, egg. hon
ey and lemon flavoring thoroughly.
Sift flour, salt, and soda together
and stir in. Chill dough. Roll out
'i inch ick. Cut into desired
shapes for doors, windows, and
sides of house. Place 1 inch apart
on lightly greased baking sheet;
Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10
minutes, until, when touched light
ly with finger, no imprint remains.
When cool, ice and decorate with
butter icing.
CARAMEL RAINROW
REFRIGERATOR COOKIES

',2 cup soft shortening Ipart

1 cup brown sugar (packed
1 egg
'j tsp. vanilla
l"i cups sifted Gold Medal
flour
'i tsp. salt
'4 tsp. soda
Mix shortening, sugar, esg, and
vanilla. Sift flour, salt and soda
and stir in. Form into different
size rolls. Sprinkle some small
rounds with tiny colored candies.
Wrap in waxed paper, chill until
firm. Slice "s inch thick and bake
on ungreased baking sheet at 400
degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Make 4 rectangle cookies 2x1 V4
inches from Merry Christmas
Cooky dough. Cut V in 2 inch side
of each cookie from paper pattern
that fits roof. Bake.
DIRECTIONS
1. Assemble house following in
structions in kit.
2. Make and decorate cookies.

Beat until very stiff peaks form.
Fold in thoroughly 2 cups sifted
confectioners' sugar. ,
4. Dccorale one side of house
at a time. Frost evenly, press
cookies into frosting and sprinkle
sides with red sugar, if desired.
5. When base is completely dec
orated, frost 'roof, press Rainbow
Cookies into frosting. . '
6. Fasten the 4 V-shaped cookies
for chimney together with frost-
ine. Frost outside, .cnrinlrlo .with
red sugar, decorate with white
irostmg. Place two short pieces
of peppermint stick in "snow" for
flues. Fit chimney to rtfof.
7. For finishing touches, let
frosting dribble from edge of roof,
windows and door to make icicles.
Place a dah of frnclinn in nrnc
of windows with toothpick.

ings in 12 major U.S. cities. San

as she will be as she has sched

pearance.
In addition to-presenting her lat
est fashions, Simonetta will pre
view new Christmas gilt packages
in her "Incanto" Perfume Line.
Born a duchess of the famous
Colonna family of Italy, Simonetta
is not only one of the most talented
of the increasingly important Ital
ian designers, but her name ap
pears regularly on the list of the
world's "best-dressed" women. She
is also her own best model for
her designs. Her personal ward
robe for her lour is a case in
point. She will be wearing clothes
that feature her recent news-making
"rondo" line, wilh scarcely an
all-black costume among them.
And her skirls are short short!
Simonetta varies her hair-style to
suit each new collection, currently
her black hair is short and fluffy.
Her hats are very small and she
wears them far back on her head,
with or without a voluminous "bee
keeper veil.
Simonetta's interest in fashion is
cis
leader, not a follower. She calls
attention to the fact that the cur
rent so-called "sack" dress first
appeared in Italy over two years
ago. And it was her husband and
closest business rival, Alberto
Fabianl, who showed the first de
sign of it at that time. Since then
other Italian designers, including
herself, have experimented with
it.
