state police; officials were angry

questioning.
The slate police superintendent,
Francis S. McGarvey, endorsed
the maimer In which his subordi
nates had icted. They did "Ihe

stances," said.
The govefior's spokesman was
asked whetttr Harriman's call for

ruled McGfvey. The spokesman
said Harrinan simply wanted- the

The participants, however, will
feel the full weight of the flood
of investigations that the Apala
chin meeting has sparked.
The governor ordered the state
investigations commissioner, Ar
thur Reuter, to "look into the ac
tivities and associations of those
attending the meeting."

in a suit asking removal of U.S.
troops from Central High School
at Little Rock, Ark.
The motion by attorneys for
Mrs. Margaret Jackson of Little
Rock sought an immediate hear
ing on the case or the remanding
of the suit to a lower court.
Government lawyers were
turned down on a motion to dis
miss the case on the grounds Mrs.
Jackson's two daughters no longer
attend the school.
The court in effect put both
sides back where they started
when the case was first appealed.
Mrs. Jackson's suit was dis
missed in Little Rock by Judge
Ronald Davies, who ordered im
mediate integration in the school.
FUMES FATAL TO TWO
ATLANTA, Ga., (UP) Two
deer hunters were found asphyxi
ated in their tent near here
Wednesday. A third was uncon
scious. Police said the two died
from fumes of a charcoal stove.
The survivor was taken to a hos
pital for treatment.
The State Parole Board and the
State Tax Department will also
make their own inquiries, it was
learned. State police have
launched their own broad probe.
In New York City, U. S. Atty.
Paul W. Williams said the "crime
cartel convention" Miad given
"fresh impetus" to an investiga
tion he has launched into rackets
in the garment and trucking in
dustries. Other investigations launched
are those of the Senate Rackets
Committee, the Internal Revenue
Service, the Alcohol Tax Unit of
the U. S. Treasury Department,

munities of the men involved.
McGarvey told a reporter he
had no complaints about the man
ner in which troopers acted in
breaking up the meeting and in
questioning and releasing the men
taken into custody.

Magazine officials blanched at

returned letters and digging out
the coppers. So they offered the
job to the boys club on a 50-30
basis.
Thus far the club has banked
$3,000.
