Charges Cut
LOS ANGELES UrV-A conspir
acy charge against 11 individuals
and three corporations connected
with the publication of Confiden
tial magazine has been dismissed.
The dismissal motion by defense
counsel Arthur J. Crowley was
granted yesterday by Superior
Judge H. Burton Noble. The pros
ecution raised no objections.
A two-month trial of the case
ended last summer with the jury

defendants were accused of con
spiring to commit criminal libel.
Still before the court is the ques
tion of whether Confidential and
Whisper magazines were guilty of
conspiracy to publish obscene
matter. This was another of the
charges in a grand jury indict
ment. Judge Noble has indicated he
will rule on this Dec. 3.
Among those involved in the dis
missal action were Confidential
publisher Robert Harrison of New
York City and Fred and Marjorie
Meade, who operated Hollywood
Research, Inc., a listening post on
the West Coast for Confidential
and Whisper.

jewelry back last night after it
turned out the small aluminum
duitcase wasn't lost but only mis
placed. She said the case held about
$7,000 worth of cameos she was to
wear in a picture being made in
this gold country area.

New Car Lights
Called Illegal
HARRISBURC, Pa. f,T)-Bureau
of Highway Safety Director O. D.
Shipley says those new cars with
four backup lights on the rear are
illegal. The state motor vehicle
code states that cars may not
have more than two such lights,
one on each side.
Shipley said the bureau will con
sider the law satisfied if the wir
ing and light bulbs are removed
from the extra lights, leaving the
covers for ornamental purposes.

Plane Search
HONOLULU Wt-The Philippine
Sea and its covey of planes to
day enter the critical area in their
search for a Honolulu-,bound Pan
American airliner which vanished
last Friday with 44 persons.
The big carrier, with 29 radar
tracking planes and 12 helicop
ters, completed the first full day
of participation in the widespread
search yesterday without a clue.
Its planes are covering a lane
200 miles wide along the airliner's
route. Four escort destroyers and
two submarines range ahead and
to the sides.

UNITED NATIONS (UP) The
Republic of Korea called today for
the withdrawal of Communist
armies from North Korea and a
U.N. supervised election there as
the simplest way of uniting th'e
divided country.
The proposals were set forth by
Dr. You Chan Yang, the ROK am
bassador to Washington, in a
speech prepared for delivery this
morning to the . U.N. Political
Committee.
"The time to act is now," he
said. "It is already later than it
should be. My nation cannot much
longer endure being half slave
and half free."
Yang denied there were "two
Koreas" and said Korean people
were "one of the most homogene
ous on earth". The terms "North
and South Korea" have absolutely
no meaning, ne said.
"If the factor of foreign aggres
sion is removed from the north
ern provinces and the people there
are allowed to express their will
freely, the reunification will come
about as easily as the water in
a cubicle will interflow and inter
mingle when a wall of division
within is removed.
The debate opened Tuesday
with an unsuccessful Indian-Soviet
eftort to win a non-voting voice
for Communist North Korea. Rep.
Walter H. Judd (R-Minn), speak
ing for the United States, called
on "the Communist side" to give
a "satisfactory accounting" of the
whereabouts - of 430 American
servicemen and 2.270 other allied
soldiers, mostly from the ROK
army, known to have fallen into
Communist hands.

ment again Thursday and the

bank employes. They have testi
fied that Scott, aftel marrying the
twice - divorced, twice widowed
heiress, gradually took over man
agement of her $600,000 estate and
used her funds from the time she
disappeared until police entered
the case 10 months later.
Police experts. They've told of
finding Mrs. Scott's false teeth,
which she was known to have
been wearing the day before she
vanished, in a trash heap on a lot
adjoining the Scotts'. And they've
testified that her signature ap
pears to have been forged on
cards used by Scott after she dis
appeared to gain access to her
safe deposit box and open a joint
bank account. s
Town Uses
Atom Power
MOORPARK, Calif, vn - The
atomic age came to Moorpark last
night, when, for five minutes, the
community of 1,500 was lighted
entirely by means of nuclear
power.
The power, transmitted over
Southern California Edison Co.,
lines, came from a nuclear plant
for generating electricity in the
Santa Susana Mountains, 30 miles
northwest of Los Angeles.
Engineers said it marked the,
first time an entire town was
lighted in this manner.
