person with the prcstiec and con
fidence of the American people to
call this nation into a period of
sacrifice, renewed dedication and
a return to God.
Graham spoke at a service cli
maxing "Visitation Week." an an
nual event of the Protestant Coun
cil of Churches of New York City.
This year s visitation program
concentrated on the 56.676 per
sons who made "decisions for
"Christ" at Graham's New York
crusade, last summer. A total of
1.2R4 went forward yesterday.
The crusade began with nightly
meetings May 15 in Madison
Square Garden. The preaching
phase ended with a rally in Broad
way just south of Times Square
Sept. t.
Last July 20. 100.000 persons
jammed Yankee Stadium on a
sweltering evening to hear Gra
ham.
Despite yesterday's cold and
threatening clouds. Graham dolled
his overcoat when he began
preaching from a stand at second
base.
He predicted the downfall of the
Vn it ed States unless Americans
follow the ways of God.
Graham reviewed the perils fac
ing the nation and said a congress
man had told him that there is a
strong element within the Krem
lin that believes that Russia
should attack the United States
within the next two years.
lie said it would be "most un
fortunate" if Kisenhower should
say anything in forthcoming
speeches that would give the
American people a "false sense of
security."
Graham did not identify the con
gressman. Graham said he feared that God
is "preparing a pagan nation" to
destroy the I'nited States just as
he "prepared a pagan nation to
destroy Ihc ancient kingdom of Israel."
"We're asleep." he said, "but 1
tell you God has not changed. . . .
His coming judgment is more cer
tain than any mathematical for
mula. . . . Sou may laugh, you
may sneer, you may doubt it. Rut
I tell you it's coming. ... I am
convinced the time is short "
The text of t he sermon involved

Amos who warned the Hebrew
people that they would he de

Pointing to the overcast sky.
Graham said:
"There's a world swinging out In
that immensity of space called
Heaven, and there's another world
