Lt. Comdr., C. Helm, officer in
charge of Navy Recruiting for Ore-
ion and southern Washington, stat
ed today that unfounded rumors
regarding curtailment of enlist
ments in the Navy are being cir
culated contrary to tacts.
"The Navy," said Commander
Helm, "still is In urgent need of
high type young men who can be
trained to the requirements of to
day s modern Navy as it changes
to atomic power. The recent De
fense Department manpower cuts
have enabled the Navy to release
several thousand so-called 'non
trainables' of the lower mental
groups to reduce the overall man
power strength of the Navy, but
the need for high school graduates
and reenlistees to replace normal
