at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Martin, I I I I Pacific Terrace and has turned it into a
.spot of beauty in the garden. Few Roman Beauty trees are grown in Southern Oregon
and this one is the only one known to be in the Klamath Falls area. The red fruit is in
striking contrast to the colorful foliage. The tree was planted 1 6 years ago. Mrs. Mar

New Rollers Make
Paint Jobs Easier
Brightening your home with a
new coat of paint is no longer a
lengthy and costly process. It s
job that can be done easily, and
inexpensively, by arming the fam
ily with paint rollers and letting
them roll their own. Even if new
at doing-it-yourself, a family can
paint the interior of an average
live-room house in a weekend with
professional looking results and
have fun doing it.
A variety of tools are available
to meet any home painting prob
lem and make the whole job eas
ier: , .
Paint roller covers made of Dy
nel. Union Carbide's acrylic fiber,
apply paint smoothly with an even,
dripless flow on almost any type
of wall surface. Since Dynel covers
are remarkably resistant to mois
ture, humidity, oils, paint solvents
and acids. They last almost indefi
nitely if properly cleaned and can
be stored between paintings with
out fear of deterioration from
moths or mildew.
A long handled roller facilitates
.painting behind radiators, pipes,
and similar awkward spots, and
ceilings of conventional heights. A
light-weight aluminum telescopic
handle attached to a regular roller
can be used for unusually high
ceilings. Floor painting is 'also
made easier with a long-handled
roller or regular roller attached
to an extension handle. Floors of
concrete, wood, or linoleum can
be roller painted with equal success.
There is scarcely anything the
roller cannot paint easily and
swiftly. Paint may be rolled right
over wallpaper, plaster, wallboard,
brick, clapboard or concrete.
The surface to be painted should
be prepared as for any brush or
spray painting; clean and free
from oil, dust, or foreign matter.
ii the surtace is new, a primer
coat is necessary.
To begin painting, the roller tray.
placed conveniently on the floor
or table or attached to the ladder
top or rung, should be filled half
way up its slanted surface. Lin
ing the tray with heavy paper or
foil will save cleaning and assist
in making quick changes of color.
Before actually painting each
main surface area, a small roller
should x used along its edges.
The large roller should be loaded
by rolling into the "shore line"
of the paint in the tray, then back
and forth oa the ribbed surface of
the tray to remove the excess.
Paint shoo Id be applied to the
surface with an easy back-and-forth
rolling motion, making sure
to keep the roller - on the waH
without spinning at the end of the
stroke, and progressing slowly and
C-Jfufly into the previously
mmmea eages.
When through painting, the roll
er cover should be cleaned thor
oughly by taking it off the holder,
putting it in a plastic bag
heavy paper bag and squeezing out
the paint. Oil paint should be
rinsed in lukewarm water. The
cover should be put in a plastic
bag to keep it clean until the next
time your house needs freshening
up with paint.

Save your larger fruit juice tins
during the warm months and use
them to start cuttings for a friend
who is adding plants to her yard.
