most any type of recipe. Conveniently stationed above it
could be a sliding spice rack, the right combination for
say. a tasty cake.
Well Planned Mixing Center
Key To Better Kitchen Work
Any homcmaker will tell you
that there are two key paints to
making the best af your kitchen:
adequate storage space and put
ting this space where it is most
convenient for the housewife.
And what could be more logical
than a mixing center with space
for all the ingredients for your
favorite recipe with a spice rack
situated an arm s length away?
Two designs shown here accom
plish just this.
Free plans for both the mixing
center cabinet itself and the handy
spice rack may- be obtained by

Here again is a case where the
plan can be used as is or may be
altered to suit individual needs.
Few kitchens are the same and oc
casionally variations from the ba
sic plan design are necessary.
The mixing center cabinet pro
vides beautifully arranged space
rakes tiies and other delicacies.
The spice rack immediately above
is a natural in this position.
The sliding spice rack contains
a tuck-away shelf utilizing the
maximum available space and
providing for tall bottles as well
as small cans and boxes. There's
room for variation whenever an
unusual kitchen design is encountered.

Redecorating
Living Rooms
Now that autumn's here, does
your living room seem tired,, i
friendly, uncomfortable? II you
are suddenly filled with an urge to
change it all consider the possi
bility of redecorating without
spending a single cent according
to Family Circle Magazine.
Evan Frances, interior decora
tor, says that by moving furni
ture around, your living room
looks new and exciting and ac
tually feels more comfortable. In
the October issue of Family Cir
cle Magazine, she 'gives a few
simple rules that can help save
wear and tear on floors, muscles
and tempers.
She suggests you begin with a
floor plan and draw in the furni
ture placements you would like.
Make all tnal-and-error moves
with pencil on paper before you
actually move any furniture.
What is the most attractive nat
ural, decorative, or architectural
feature of your living room? Is
it a lovely view outside your win
dow? A brick fireplace and
hearth? Whatever it is, make it
the focal point" for a main sealing
grouping of sofa and chairs. Then
create a smaller conversation
al grouping in a corner of the
living room:' Two chairs in tete-a-tete
position or a chair and end
table for welcome isolation, when
reading or sewing.
Try to avoid stringing chairs
and other furniture along the walls
and edges of a room, lest you give
the room and uncoordinated feel
ing and the wall-hugging cnairs
the look of strays.
If possible, place one piece of
furniture at right angles to a wall
a sofa, a desk, a cabinet with
finished back. By so doing you can
add dimension or perspective to a
wall, relieve the boxuke appear
ance of some rooms, and. if de
sired, create a room divider.
No need to worry about walls'
being barren because you ve
moved furniture away from them.
A tall leafy plant, an unusual wall
paper treatment, wall-hung book
shelves, a wall-bracketed lighting
fixture, or a group of paintings can
give your walls high design and
good purpose. .
