as we got out but they were pulled

SEARCHED PLANE
A Coast Guardsman singled out
for praise was Motor Machinist
Ron Christian, San Fernando,
Calif., who leaped into the linking
plane to make sure everyone was
out.
"I jumped into the gap, the
whole back was ripped out," hi
said. "I jumped over a lot of deb
ris and looked around the top of
the cabin. There were broken dolls
in the aisles, there was a lot of
luggage.
"I walked up and down the
plane and then came back and
yelled the all clear, and I heard
the order, 'go back again.'.
"Debris was packing up against
the tail, the plane was rising. It
felt as though it was going to be
one of the last rises before it sank.
"I checked the whole upper
deck, no one was there. I came
back to the tail and jumped into
our own boat."
