grange and a good crowd attended

Grange Master Darvin Robnett
named Harvey Sanders as a com
mittee of one to purchase 40 of
the old courthouse chairs for use
in the grange ball. Sanders is
county treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Butler
were obligated as new members.
On the lecturer's program, Nor
mand Nickels, Modoc County (arm
adviser, spoke on "Prodis Through
Research." He told of the use of
stilbeslerol tablets to produce lean
er meat. He also explained how
the wise use of fertilizer will help
offset the high price of hay by
invigorating the land to greater
production.
The Eastside will put on the
first degree and Westside the sec
ond Saturday night for new appli
cants and any grange members
who have not had these degrees.
Grange ladies are asked to bring
refreshments, as usual.
The Home Ec Club members
will put on the program for the
next regular- meeting to be held
on April 1. On April 21, the third
and fourth degrees will be put on
at valley Falls and all grange
members not having had these
degrees are asked to attend.

A GET ACQUAINTED LUNCHEON was held Monday at the fire hall of the Klamath Falls
Municipal Airport. The fire .departments of the airport and Klamath Falls combined to put on
the dinner and invited several of the U. S. Air Force officers stationed at the base. Lt. Col.
Robert Larson, seated left, is serving some of the spaghetti which was part of the meal. Major

Jaycees Hold
First Dinner

ing was Tuesday evening March

attending.
Before dinner a barefoot basket
ball game whetted appetities of
the members. A short business
meeting followed the dinner, with
discussion of the past basketball
tournament and future activities.
Hosts were Jaycee members of
the Sprague River area Jim Rodg
ers, Vern Henpel, Bud Gienger
and Hank WauRh. Wives of the
hosts prepared the dinner of ham
and beans and pie.

Thief Arrested
An itinerant cook, who railroad
police say had a penchant for
breakfast cereals was held In the
county jail Thursday for allegedly
looting a Southern Pacific freight
car.
The accused thief, Robert E.
O'Brien. 41, was arrested by Tail
road police as he was reported to
have been hauling four large car
tons of assorted cereal away
from the railroad yard. The offi
cers said O'Brien broke into a
freight car to obtain the break
fast food.
When arraigned on a burglary
charge before District Judge
D. E. Van Vactor, the defendant
waived preliminary hearing He
was ordered held for the grand
Jury. Bail was set at $2,000.
Death Claims
Mrs. Viola Hilt
Mrs. Viola Bell Hilt, 71, died at
her home, 3213 Cannon Street,
early Thursday. She had resided
in Klamath Falls since 1926.
Mrs. Hilt Is survived by her
widower, Elmer Hilt of this city,
a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Green.
Paul Hatton, Ohio; a stepson, Ar
thur Hilt, Nelsonville, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at
3 p.m. Saturday from O'Hair's Me
morial Chapel with the Rev. Lon
nle Seahorn of the Klamath Tem
ple officiating. Interment will fol
low in Klamath Memorial Park.

Drunk Driving
Charge Dismissed
A defense motion for dismissal
of an intoxicated driving charge
agaiust Guy Barton, Klamath Ba
sin rancher, was upheld by Circuit
Judge David R. Vandenberg late
Wednesday.
Barton was convicted last May
by a jury in District Judse D. E.
Van Vactor a court. He was sen
tenced to SO days in Jail and fined
$250. Defense Attorney Ben God
dard appealed the case to circuit
court.
In dismissing the action. Judge
Vandenberg said the prosecution
had failed to produce evidence that
Barton was the driver of a pick
up truck Involved In the case. Bar
ton was arrested on South Sixth
Street by state police.

Johns-Manville has announced
plans for the constructlcn of a 12
million dollar' insulating board
plant near where HiKhway 97
crosses the Williamson River about
24 miles north of Klamath Falls.
The operation will use extensive
cuttings of jackpine located to the
north of the plant site.
In further business, tne directors
acted in oppostion to a request
from Southern Oregon Hospitality
Unlimited, an organiratlon to pro
mote tourist travel in this area,
for advertlslncr funds. The board
expressed agreement to the prin
cipal of the program, but stated
it was unable to help financially
until more support was received
from wavside Industries.
The board also heard plans for
a Klambassador trip to Tulelake
next Wednesday when Ihey will be
attests at a Rotary Club luncheon.
Plans were announced for a review
of the past five years at the April
meeting when board members at
that time will be special guests.
Chamber manager Tucker will re
view his work since coming to
Klamath County in April. 1951.
Liedtke Fund
Gets Proceeds
Net proceeds from the Oregon
Journal Junior Show were turned
over to the Liedtke Memorial Fund
of Altamont Junior High. The show,
sponsored by the Loyal Order of
Moose No. 1106 Klamath Falls,
attracted a good attendance last
Thursday night at the Mills School
auditorium.
The Moose Lodge reported total
receipts of (706.70, expenses of the
show and advertising, $575.29, with
a net profit of 1131.41 which waa
presented to Altamont Junior High
and will be used for the purchase
of band instruments for the school.
The following merchants contrib
uted to the program but their copy
was received too late to be mclud
ed in the full page of contributors.
The Town Shop, Firestone Stores,
Rogers Jewelry and the Eagles
Lodge. The Moose Lodge expressed
appreciation to all who helped
make the venture a success.
