is caught in a Bridy Murphv' fever
with gags, ads about hypnotists
and even one star. Paul Douglas
surpassing them all with a new
telev.slon series.
Bridey is the subject of a ben
selling book on "ase regression"
hypnosis. A Colorado woman
claimed that under hypnosis .he
discovered she was an Irish girl in
another century. Pilmites have cot
toned to this new idea.

Policy Moves
Irk Congress
WASHINGTON lPl Senate and
House Democrats grumbled today
that the Eisenhower administra
tion has been neglecting to consult
congress before making major
foreign policy moves like the tank
shipment to Saudi Arabia.
For the moment at least, the
issue of the shipment itrelf took a
back seat as Eome Democrats used
it as a springboard for fresh pro
tests over what Sen. Morse D-Ore i
denounced as "a course of foreign
policy by secrecy."
But Rep. Judd (R-Minnl, a mem
ber of the House Foreign Affairs
Committee, said, "I think they've
consulted us on all that we have
had a right to expect."
The evident mood of some Dem
ocrats indicated that Secretary of
State Dulles might be in for a
Jairly rugged reception when he
is called to explain the how and
why of the tank deal, probably
later this week.
The Houte Foreign Affairs Com
mittee chairman. Rep. Richards
(D-SC), ripped into the administra
tion which he said "is still of the
19th century vintage opinion that
in the foreign alfairs field the
House is an illegitimate member
of the family, and a weak-minded
illegitimate son at that."
Richards' outburst brought to the
surface a latent resentment over
what he says is an administration
tendency to look to the Senate in
consultation on foreign policy
matters. He said her knew nothing
about a Saturday decision to lift a
brief embargo in all arms ship
ment to the troubled Middle East.
VAs far as I know," he added,
"none of the House leaders were
consulted in advance either."
Senators Sparkman (D-Ala) and
Morse said the Senate Foreign Re
lations Committee was ignored too.
and that Chairman George (D-Ga)
wasn't notified of the original plans
to send 18 light tanks to Saudi
Arabia. They said George was told
only when the administration or
dered the tanks shipped after a
restudy of the situation. Sparkman
and Morse serve on George's committee.

is making the rounds of the stu
dios. But Douglas has beat every
one to the punch by announcing a

Murphy in the shade.
Douglas, in association with pro
ducer Peter Ralhvon and United
Press London columnist. Robert
Musel, secured rights to dramatize
the cases of the Society of Psychi
cal Research. This organization

tion. Douglas says, will not be
touched.
"We will not attempt to drama
tize anything that is not conclu
sive." Douglas said. "The society
is composed of scientists, profes
sors and learned men. They are
very serious. They frown on table
moving, mediums. None of that
charlatanism. They aren't a bunch
of tea leaf boys."
Douglas will host and narrate
the series, to be filmed in Eng
land beginning in April. The series
will be released on TV next fall.
"We'll use English casts," Doug
las added. "They are very cooper
ative as against the skeptics and
scoffers you'd fine In Hollywood."
Japanese Ships
Seek Red Mines
TOKYO 11 Japan's Maritime
Safety Board called out three
extra boats Tuesday to comb the
Tsugaru Strait for floating mines
apparently Russian.
The board said four mines were
spotted Sunday and Monday near
the strait, which separates the
main island of Honshu and the
northernmost island of Hokkaido,
Two were exploded. The others
bobbed away.
A U. S. Navy spokesman de
clared recently the Communists
are deliberately releasing Russian
model mines into the Sea of
Japan.

'Creepy-Peepy'
Added By Army
WASHINGTON I The Army
has added to its combat arsenal
a gadget It calls the "creepy
peepy" a television camera and
transmitter designed for use in for
ward battle areas.
One man could move the 55
pound camera and transmitter to
an advanced position under cover
of darkness, then withdraw to safe
ty. A receiver set up behind the
lines would record the transmit
ter's signal on a 10-lnch picture
tube.

use. "creepy-peepy" might be used

The stations have been operating

the engineer's visit was made in a
letter from R. E. Hatchard. chief
of air pollution control, to the
Klamath Falls City Council.

The next day the boy returned
home, then reported the cabin had
burned. His sister confirmed his
story.
