HOLLYWOOD Cecil B. De-
Mltle. the fabulous film maker who
will be 75 in August, declared to
dpy he has no Intention of retiring.
There had been rumors that the
director's swan sons to his long
career would be "The Ten Com
mandments," by far his biggest
and costliest epic. He even added
fuel to the reports by hinting that
his age might preclude any further
films.
But when I saw him in his Pars-
mount Studio office, he seemed as
vigorous as ever.
No. I don't suppose I will ever
quit unless I am forced to." he

them. It is a good story and a
fascinating time in. our history.
"I haven't had time to think of
the next project. I still have five
months of work to do on 'The Ten
Commandments.' I have the scor
ing and editing, plus some techni
cal sequences like the pillar of
fire, the parting of the Red Sea
and the clash of storms from the
Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
"The picture wiU be released as
soon as I can get the work done.

In the Siskiyou County high schools
will not be possible In the near
future because various high school
principals in the county consider
that It is not practical to institute
the program at this time, report
ed Paul Fisher, assistant county
superintendent of schools, at the
February meeting o the Siski
you County Peace Officers Asso
ciation.
The training program has been
Investigated and encouraged by the
association which gathered statis
tics throughout the state to show
that students who received this
program in their high school years
have . better drivers' rating than
those not receiving such training
Substantiating the program possi
bilities was the fact that during
1955 a total of $7,245 was assessed
In fines in this county which are.
by law. earmarked for the driver
training program. The fines are
sent by the county treasurer to the
state treasurer and from there
pro-rated to various high schools
In the state which have the pro
gram In effect.
Resolutions passed by the as
sociation at their Thursday night
meeting in Mount Shasta were:
(1) a resolution to be sent to the
two houses of the California Legis
lature that proposed legislation to
grant a five per cent Increase to
state-employed law enforcement
officers be considered' favorably;
i2i a resolution be sent to the
Siskiyou County board of supervi
sors and the county personnel
committee recommending an ade
quate salary increase for all county-employed
law enforcement offi
cers, justice court judges and their
clerks, and also that a like resolu
tion be sent to the various city
police department and the police
protection district of Weed.
These resolutions were for the
purpose of increasing the salaries
of the above-mentioned employes
in line with salary increases grant
ed in the Industrial field.

association meeting to be held at
Weed will be handled by Police
Chief Harold Barnum of Weed,
game warden William Auman and
Judicial Court Judge Kenneth
Stone.

7956 Oscar Nominees To Be
Revealed Over TV Saturday

HOLLYWOOD (UP) The 1956
Oscar nominees will be unveiled on
television Saturday and this year
the show has been remodeled to
guarantee "no embarrassment."
Last year any star who had a
remote chance to cop a nomination
sat In on the telecast.' When the
nominees were announced, the
cameras caught the disappointed
faces of the losers. This time kind-
ly NBC-TV will not let that happen, i
"Not one prospective nominee j
will be on camera unless actually j
nominated," resolved Alan Hand-,
ley. producing the show for the
network. "This way there Is less
chance lor embarrassment.
NBC started telecasting the nom
inations only last year. Sandley
admits he then didn't think It
would be much of a show. But it
snared one of the highest ratings
of any 90-minute "spectacular."
For this year's show the pros
pective nominees all will gather In
NBC's Burbank studios. Susan
Hayward, Spencer Tracy, James
Cagney, Ernest Borgnine, Glenn
Ford, Marlssa Pavan and Frank
Sinatra are among those expected
to be Dominated. Other stars will
help announce the nominations.
The technical awards will be
flashed on the screen on cards
while clips from last year's win
ning films are shown. The top act
ing nominees will be revealed by
a surprise method when clips
from their movies appear on the
screen.
To master tills complicated set
up. Price-Waterhouse, the account
ing firm that counts the votes, had
to let somebody In on the results
for the first time.
Veteran film cutter Bill Horn
beck was sworn to secrecy. Horn
beck is editing clips of the winning
acting roles. The can of film will
be sealed and opened only on the
telecast. Prlce-Waterhouse is pre
paring the cards that announce the
other winners.
"We have no idea about the nom
inees," Handley insisted. "Some
people always think this Isn't on
the level. But It Is. The secrecy
makes five times as much work
for us."
