It's sad because a lot of money
was spent on a lot of talent In
nn effort to be entertaining. You
mav not live by audience rating
figures, but the advertising agen

The first Sunday, the 15 city
Trendex wrvey rated the Comedy
Hour at 15.8 against Ed Sullivan's
26. Last Sunday's figures are
even more dismal. 11.8 against 35.
Seldom lias a show been so be
labored by the critics, but before

The officers said she and Mrs.
Hecocta had been engaged In a
long-standing feud. The Hecocta
house was the scene In November,
1954 of the slaying of Richard Dav
id Miller. 25.
James Qulnton Anderson, 31-year
old Beatty rancher, was convicted
of the murder and sentenced to
life Imprisonment. He has since
been held In the county Jail here
pending an appeal of his case to
the Oregon Supreme Court.

robbery armed with a dangerous
weapon.
At the reauest of Defense Attor
ney Edwin F. Driscoll, Williams
was aiven until January 24 to de
cide whether he wants a prelimi
nary hearing.
Williams also was arraigned on
two traffic violation charges. He
was accused of parking on the
hichw.iv Illegally and ignoring a
top sign. Attorney Driscoll asked
for additional time to enter pleas.
Those cases also were continued
until January 24.
Police claim Williams was wound
ed In the left shoulder while fleeing
last Thursday from Yaden's serv
ice station. Lawrence B. (Grady)
Oaylord, attendant at the station,
fired two shots at a man alleged
to have been Williams. The shoot
ins followed a holdup at Idella's
Grocery Store where $45 in cash
was taken.

liams' bail at $20,000 and remanded

but there the comparison ends. Un
like most new stars from the Ac
tors' Studio, he's not a "charac
ter." He Is an affable 30-year-oia
who's been married for six years,
has three children, does not play
the bongo drums and doesn't think
Hollywood is a horrible place.
Newman looks at his new star
dom with a realistic angle.
'I didn't go Into this business
with stars in my eyes," he said.

Joe Lobue was the heaviest loser
yesterday in a fire that swept
through a burlap bag company for
a third time in two months. Owners
said their loss was not great be
cause most of the material de
stroyed was salvage from the two
previous lires. But Lobue lost his
$3,000 d 1 a m o n d-studded badge
while fighting the blaze. The badge
was a gift from friends after he
became chief in 1953.
