and is expected in Klamath Falls January 6 for a short vaca
tion leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
Averett, 39 Main Street. Accompanying Averett is his wife,
Ernie, who will remain in Klamath Falls while he attends
officers' training school at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. They were
married in Germany, and Mrs. Averett came here three years
ago for an extended visit with his parents. His brother, A-lc
Ronald Averett, U.S. Air Force, was home on leave during the
Christmas holidays.
Sheep Contest Rules Given

Increased Compensation Delivery Date Announced
Increased compensation checks

week beginning January 18.
Amended claims under the new
schedule in effect for the first
week of 1954 will be taken start
ing next Monday, according to the
Stkt Unemployment Compensa
tion Commission, which has com.

Maximum weekly payment will
increase to 35 from the former
S26, while the average chock is
expected to be around $29 against
Ihe former ja. Allowable partial
earnings also have been raised

weekly benefit amount. Maximum
duration remains the same at 2H
weeks In a benefit year.
While "seasonality" restrictions
have been done away with by the
amended law, nearly a sixth of the

mum, base year earnings from $400
to $700 and the requirement that
ruch earnings must be at least 37
times the weekly benetii amount.
In addition to these changes ef
fective in 1958, the new disquali
fication and forfeiture clauses that
became law last August 3 have
resulted in postponing benefits for
some claimants. Others have had
benefits reduced or denied because
of receiving old age Insurance or
retirement pay.
Final effect of these and other
mendmenta probably will not be
ascertained until the end of the
current benefit year June 30, next.
Estimates indicate payments may
rise about 15 per cent or two mil
lions this year, while an additional
amount may be added when 250.
