Helen Hayes had a heart warm
ing salute to ber 50th anniversary
as a stage actress by playing "The
8kin of Our Teeth" in Paris as

State's "Salute to France ' pro
gram. She then returned to repeat
her performance of the same role
of Mrs. Antrobus in a revival of
the Thornton Wilder comedy on
Broadway.
Outstanding among new stage
actresses Is 17-year-old Susan
Strasberg, daughter of actor-director
parents, who gives a tender,
moving performance of a 16-year-old
fleeing from the Iron Curtain
in the hit drama, "The Diary of
Anne Frank." This is Miss Stras
berg's Broadway stage debut, but
she has played previously in Holly
wood films and she recently played
Juliet on television.
Helen Traubel broke through
from ber classical confines of
Metropolitan Opera to play a
baudy madame In the new Rod
gers and Hammerstein musical.
"Pipe Dream." and she won bou
quets In this down-to-earth mood
far removed from her Wagnerian
operatic roles.
